hey just remember that because the 'real world' is upon you should still do all that stuff that makes you happy and keeps you sane. eventhough i work at shitload of hours a week its my tuesday nite dinners with my girls, the rafting trip, day trips to anywhere, snowboarding weekends, and hiking trips that keep me from going off the deep end. you wont look back on your life and think hey i wish i had graded more papers at night, or built better lesson plans - make sure you stil have fun and sprinkle in a few insane nights in there!

Don't worry too much-- the step program at UMass is not that hard. A lot of work at times but not hard work, if that makes any sense. Lean on your peers-- I don't stay in touch with any of the people I went to grad school with but I couldn't have made it through without them. Going out with them once a week after class to complain and comiserate is a life saver. And here is my best teacher advice: remember all good teachers steal. The trick is that good teachers don't just steal lesson plans but adapt them and make them better; however, I am constantly getting ideas from my coworkers, from a few good internet sites (pbs.org would work for you too) and books. If I am stuck for an idea, this is where I go. If I am starting a new unit, I look at what other people have done to get ideas. Speaking of which, I should go and take my own advice and get some work done...
