Alas, I must follow yesterday's post with a Fluevog tale of woe ;_;

In my post yesterday, I mentioned that I had purple Zacharys en route. Today they arrived, and they're gorgeous and I love them...and there is no way they're going to work with my calves. This tends to be a bit of a risk with tall boots, because I have fairly small feet (size 6 or 6.5) but average-sized, solid calves. Fun with proportions! Only the ( Read more... )

I have my eye on the Purple 5-Eye Derby Swirls myself :) My last pair of Derby Swirls died a few years ago (after 15 years + 2 resoles) but have been balking at the price. I miss my discount *dramatic sigh* But my local Doc Marten dealer doesn't have boots in any fun colours or the exact black pair that I want, soooooo....

Fifteen years sounds pretty impressive for boots! I've never had a pair of footwear resoled. Do you usually have to go someplace specific with 'vogs, or can most cobblers handle it?

My poor husband's Angels were bought during a period when they were briefly being soled someplace that didn't do a great job (I gather it wasn't long after that the company was like "Um, no" and took their business elsewhere), and he doesn't wear them all that often, so by the time we realized--because the soles started peeling off!--the warranty period was over. :/ It was very sad. And they're the only shoes he's ever bought from Fluevog.

Do you find Docs have a similar level of staying power?

Most competent cobblers can handle a resole - you just need to buy the replacement soles from the web shop. I miss the days when the soles were stitched on, but that required having a midsole and that made the boots heavier than they needed to be.

I haven't had a pair of Docs since high school, so I don't know how much they've changed. My last pair were good to go for many years. The leather uppers wore out before the soles did.

I admit I'm in favor of lighter boots--none of my combat boots have ever been steel-toed (although I imagine the stitched 'vogs weren't that heavy?) because I prefer lighter footwear in general.

I sucked it up and emailed about returning my boots today. Buu.

I want to buy a pair of boots that fit over my calves, but for some reason, I have been unable to find any that will fit. I dunno if I have abnormally thick calves or what. It's extremely frustrating to say the least.
