Kitten tales

Claudia's default vocalization since we got her has been this pitiful-sounding, terribly earnest little peeping noise. (She's recently started meowing as well, but the little chirrup is still the most common. We're going to miss it.) She's also clearly one of those cats who firmly believes she is talking to the monkeys. If belief were communication ( Read more... )

I'm glad I'm not the only one who talks to my cats. LOL! My little one, Grundy, is very vocal. He's always meowing, and sometimes he just sounds so desperately sad for no apparent reason. My other cat is mostly silent unless he really, really needs to get my attention.

Can't believe you forgot to take video! LOL! I'd have liked to see cat vs human in an elemental battle as old as time itself. ::grins::

We talk to both of the kittens quite a bit. ^_^ Jinksy doesn't talk much, though. Half of the time when he chirps I assume it's Claudia! But he purrs like an engine. She gets loud too once she gets going, but when Jinksy's feeling friendly he sometimes revs up as soon as scruloose (my husband) walks into the room, if he's just coming home from work or something.

The degree to which I under-utilize my phone is really sad. But we do have a video of Yogurt Time for Kittens that our friend Kas took! I should see about compressing and uploading it somewhere. Yogurt is Very Serious Business for our kittens, especially Claudia. I'm pretty sure it's literally the highlight of her day, and it shows. *g*

At least you have a phone that does fun things. I just have a tracfone. Thankfully I don't do a lot of texting, because it takes forever.

My kitties go nuts every time I open a can of tuna. I don't know how they know the difference between that can and say a can of corn, because as soon as I put my hands on it they come running.

Both of my guys are patters. Always patting me on the face when they want some love. Pat, pat, pat.

Random story! A couple of years ago I was living in Toronto with my friend Ginny for a few months (her full-time job there is in the Ontario equivalent of where I do my seasonal work here in Nova Scotia, so they let me wander in and work for a while), and generally she cooked and I did the dishes, but one night I was going to cook. It involved a can of soup, and her cat was convinced I was opening tuna and not sharing. CONVINCED. Like, leaped and snarled, and that is not in character for her.

(Daisy is, shall we say, not the brightest feline around.)

Things should get interesting once you put your Christmas tree up. We'll be needing to kitty proof our tree since this will be the first year we're putting up a tree since acquiring new kitty... who is a spry little three year old with the same playfulness of a kitten.

And I've not had a cat yet who properly meows. They either squeak or chirp in some form or another. In fact, a nickname for the youngest is 'Squeakers'. I think you can figure out why...

When I was making my original to-do list for kitten prep, one of the first things I put down was "don't use any breakable ornaments for their first Christmas". I think we'll likely put the tree up and leave it undecorated for a day or two in case they climb it and knock it over (and if that happens, hopefully it'll be alarming enough to put them off doing it again).

Yeah, I was gonna make sure not to put too many on the lower branches, but Tor-T is rather long when she stretches, so we may need to come up with other ideas. Sounds like a job for Google.
