Some thoughts on my social media habits

I'm trying to decide whether I should get a Tumblr account to add to my list of online haunts (most of which get neglected to some degree or another, although they all contribute to nibbling away at my time). Does anyone have any opinions about the site? Right now my main reason for wanting an account is "there are people I adore using it!", which ( Read more... )

re: tumblr - Charmain has talked about it in the dw journal here is the tag for tumblr and gave a somewhat favorable review. (I hope it's ok to link!)

lj/dw ate up a lot of time as it is. I'm debating deleting my twitter account since I don't have anything interesting to say and I can follow others' twitter via rss and I don't log in daily, either. I actually don't have a point here.

your comment about OpenOffice spell check is funny :)

I'm finding I like Twitter quite a bit, although a) I don't say very much and b) it's no substitute for LJ/DW. (Although other people find it is, which...I don't really understand, but okay. ^^)

Hee. Ain't... it seems like that word has such a long history of usage for not being a "real" word. But that's why we love it(?).

I have no idea what one does with tumblr. I suspect I am probably better off that way, as I've no problem distracting myself with the various online things I am aware of.

Also, it's been ages since I heard "Yakusoku wa Iranai." So lovely though-I need to hunt it down again!!

Good luck with posting more! I should try that too, probably :D

Tumblr seems kind of odd. Apparently it's "microblogging", but that doesn't tell me much.

I think redistributing my posting habits really might help with posting more often. But then again, I imagine I thought something similar last year. ^^;

I agree with most of what you have to say, and I am trying to post more frequently. I use LJ for many reasons: as an information center; as a source of amusement; as a discussion forum; and perhaps most importantly, as an online and more diverse version of sitting down and having tea with a good friend or gossiping over a backyard fence with a neighbor.

I do have a DW account, but I tend to forget I have it and rarely check it. *sweatdrops* This is mainly because my online time is limited, and I want to spend most of my time where the majority of my community is. However, I shall endeavor to at least check it, if not post there more often.

The LJ/DW model is amazingly versatile. ^_^ I love that I never know what I'm going to find, and that people link to each other and comment so freely that there's constant exposure to new people.

I really wish DW were catching on more widely. I'm not willing to actually walk away from my LJ accounts, but DW is doing really impressive things on the tech side, and their attitude is so much better.

Yes, I know what you mean, especially about the attitude.

I'm going to try to make an effort to post a little more as well. I've been a little lax lately and annoying a lot of people on my FL probably. So I definitely hope to improve in that aspect.

Yes it is! I guess my life has been pretty non-descript lately that there was nothing worth posting about. That and pure laziness on my part...

And I posting this from my phone, which is pretty awesome!!

I'm upset at the fact that people can just vanish off the face of the planet just by not updating their LJ. I'm glad to see that you're still keeping up on the updates, but I seriously miss hearing from everybody. It's disheartening.

Yeah. :( When it's people I know I can find elsewhere (whether that means other online places, or even just knowing that other friends are seeing them in person sometimes and would let me know if something were seriously wrong) it's not so bad, for me, but when someone I only know online simply disappears it's very sad. And sometimes nerve-wracking, if there's any sense that something might actually be wrong and there's no way to know for sure.
