[linkage] Tokyopop/Furuba vol. 13 translation notes

Jul 26, 2006 23:03

Just a quick post to link to Adam's notes on Tokyopop's translation of Furuba vol. 13. It's an interesting read, esp. with the note on some foreshadowing that got lost (which I either didn't notice at the time, or had forgotten about since reading the volume a few months ago). And now I'm faintly depressed about Momiji again.

I've been reading through my new French volumes (13-18) and I was surprised at how much volumes 15-16 (concerning Yuki's development) hit me in light of the most recent chapter. Also, when one looks at volume 17 with its Akito revelations, and the constant references that Kureno has to Akito's sadness/crying being why he stays with her and what the actual process of being freed feels like, it all made a lot more sense. I've always imagined the curse as a sort of metaphysical umbilical cord tying the cursed to the god and the breaking of it feeling as a ripping away of that connection. Is that too odd to imagine them as babies getting their first breath of air ( ... )

The progression through the last several volumes has been *so* gorgeous. (And I do like your interpretation of the curse.)

when Kureno held Touru, wasn't his embrace and touching of her face weirdly tender and erotic? It made me wonder if it was because he'd only dealt with Akito for so long that he didn't know how to interact in another way with a woman.

I actually wrote a scene with a very similar idea just in the last week or so (different characters, unsurprisingly)--I should look back at the volume and see this scene again. When I don't need to be heading back out the door to work. Meep!

(I think Shadow did most of it--IIRC there're only one or two chapters, somewhere between 98-103 or so, that she didn't do at all.)

These are the times when I most wish I knew Japanese. Thank goodness for Shadow and you guys!! Thanks for the link, as well :-)

Yeah, me too. :/ (I'm so glad there're people willing to fill in the gaps. ^_^)
