flamika, I'm basing this post on the translation that went out over the ML. I wrote it a few hours ago and held onto it in case Shadow had time to give us her version before I went to bed, but it grows late. ^^ Depending on how she words things, there may be some remaining things that come to mind later.
Akito's conversation with Hiro is almost sweet--she's so gruff and awkward about it, but obviously trying not to drive him away. :/ (I wonder if the flash of him telling her that he's free from the curse comes before or after this exchange? Probably before, I guess.)
Yay for all of the 12shi being summoned! *fidgets* (Even Kureno? I wonder, esp. since it does look like the end of the last chapter was a flash-forward . . . his dialogue to Arisa in the hospital made it sound like he felt it was best for Akito if he simply vanished from her life, but maybe he meant it less starkly than it sounded.)
Ok, Haru *is* still calling Shigure "sensei". And that necklace is damn creepy. [/arachnophobe]
"Bullying is a way of expressing one's love". O_o Oh, Haru. And poor Kyo, with Yuki almost forgetting to tell him about Tohru's discharge from the hospital. The look on Yuki's face when he says, "Sorry, I'm really sorry" the first time is quite something.
And it's not until Kyo's run off that Haru tells Yuki that "he's heard" that the Cat's room will be destroyed. Interesting--both that Kyo hasn't mentioned it (although it's not surprising), and that it's gossip within the compound. I love Yuki's soft expression at the news, esp. placed against his "I envy them" in response to Haru's speculation that Kyo's freedom means that Kyo and Tohru can be together.
*giggles* Poor Kyo--he'll probably never quite be able to handle Arisa and Saki, and he'll probably spend his whole life trying. And I'm remembering when they dragged him and Yuki to help pick a bathing suit for Tohru. *^^*
The reiteration of the "how I envy them" thought is interesting, as Yuki's conversation with Machi starts. Ahhh . . . ok, that makes sense. Yay for addressing the loose end that was bothering me: Yuki's anxiety over Machi not knowing the truth about him, and envying Kyo because Tohru *does* know the truth about *him*, and accepts him. (Honda-san is already well-aware of the fact that Kyo is different from normal human beings . . . But I . . . )
It's especially important in light of Yuki's original hesitation about Tohru, and his assumption (planted or reinforced by Akito) that his curse would repulse ordinary people. That reinforcement probably makes it an even bigger issue for him than it is for most of the others, and I think it's likely the final key thing to put the seal on his development away from the family: to know that Tohru's not a fluke, that people really can know him and still care for him. (I'm reminded of Akito telling Kyo that Tohru must be a monster herself, to accept someone like him--not that Yuki would be thinking that way, but it almost has to seem like something that can only happen once, esp. with his perception of Tohru as someone who reached out to him and helped him, to the extent that we wind up with the "mother" issue.) It certainly explains the tremendous intensity on his face.
Poor Machi, left to wonder what the hell's up with him after his apparently-out-of-nowhere vehemence.
Back to Akito, telling Shigure that she's summoned the 12shi, and "I'm going to put an end to it all. I will say the things I need to say . . . " *more fidgeting* And ohh, Shigure telling her she needs to learn the difference between mocking and teasing. (So true. I wonder if anyone but him has ever dared to tease her?)
The sequence of expressions after he says he's giving her a gift "to commemorate [their] 'parting'" is very interesting. The translation has "parting" in quotes, although I don't see it in the Japanese text, so I'm not sure how to interpret it. *anxious for Shadow's translation*
Nervous Kyo! ^^ Poor kitty, trying so hard to remember what "normal" is like with Tohru, so he can be natural with her. And debating with himself about how exactly he feels about her . . . until the moment he actually lays eyes on her. *melts*
And again, the girls are fabulous, playing off Kyo's amusing reactions to Tohru running. I esp. like Saki's total deadpan as she says she wants to laugh until her stomach hurts. The look on their faces as they watch him chase after Tohru is just wonderful--amused and accepting, I think. (And now I'm reminded of the "what am I, your toy?" *nods* conversation.)
Again, poor Machi, being left until the next day until Yuki finally calls her and tells her they need to talk. >.> She'd probably figured that out on her own, YunYun. (Ok, to be fair, he phrases it as "I need to tell you something, no matter what". But still.)
Kyo's final rebuke, hollering after Tohru not to run so hard when she's still recovering, really is a good way to end the chapter. It works in the same way that Akito's reflexive snarl at him worked, reminding us that she's still Akito even though she's changing so much. Kyo's reaction to Tohru hasn't changed, either--it's just that he's more aware of what it means now.
