everyone's entitled to their own beliefs.  beliefs influence actions.  be it positive or negative action, everyone lives with the consequences.  consequences affect everyone in the smallest negligible form or the deepest dramatic impact, but still exist somehow; whether a person acknowledges it as such is irrelevant ( Read more... )

ermm i hope you don't mind me stumbling here.

i've to agree with several points you make and what really stands out to me is the point whereby they don't exist only as our source of entertainment. if only more people understand this. they've a mind of their own and they're free to do whatever they want.

i don't mind at all. it's out there for people to think and discuss, or at least i hope people think and discuss.

i think celebrities suffer from this. they are objectified and fans think that they own the celebrity. i'm from the US and here, celebrities have more freedom in their personal lives, but they're viewed as sexual objects. this applies to both genders--women who wear skimpy outfits and men always taking off their shirts.

i think it's taken another extreme in asian countries where fangirls literally think of their idols as their "boyfriends" and them having private lives is like "cheating" on them. it's such a dangerous mentality to have, not healthy at all.

oh yes, it's really >.< in asian countries. some idols from the 80s and 90s don't dare to get married or their marriage is kept secret until the 21st century as fangirls have been known to commit suicide. it's just too extreme, making life for both them and for the idols. (and oh yes, i'm actually an asian. my profile has australia as my location as i study there)

i'm asian too, but i've been raised in the us...so i'm kinda a hybrid asian american in the way i think. i still have those "traditional" values pounded into my head, but i can view them side by side with the "liberal" western values. it's ironic how it's reversed a lot of the time in the public stance and how real society works sometimes. but that's another discussion ( ... )
