Do You Hear the People Sing?

There was an article today about new changes for the Les Mis revival. Every time I think I've calmed down about it, I read something cool like this about it, and I get excited all over again:

Beach said that while there are few changes to the script or basic score, the music is being reorchestrated. "You don't reinvent the wheel. It's a great, ( Read more... )

That does sound nice. It's great to know that they can revise a few things and reenergize a production that's been seen like a zillion times already, lol. BTW, never seen it.

!!!

If you like musicals at all you should check Les Mis out. It is a classic.

So are you watching Lost on top of Galactica and Who? Or are these your main shows tonight? I notice you say they change Dr. Who every season - is that a mishap or a purposeful maneuver?Nah, I totally lost interest in Lost. It went more batshit than any anime I've ever seen. I read stuff about it sometimes so if Sayid actually gets screentime again or something actually happens, I might tune in again ( ... )

DUDE! WE can be musical nerds together! Fran knows that I've done way too many community theatre productions...including directing and producing a crazy version of West Side Story that she provided 95% of the costumes for! Heh.

Although Les Mis? Hmmm...new orchestrations would help. But you know what would also help? Less spectacle more dancing. I'm a dancing show freak. I think every musical should have a lot of dance, little dialogue and kick ass songs. Les Mis has the good songs, but when I saw it on Broadway, it was disappointing to see these overpaid actors stand in a line and sing on stage. But the songs are perfectly crafted, and the spectacle is awesome. So much smoke! Poor overused fog machines.

woo! And the icon - I'm going to go see Avenue Q for class, I'm excited.

Really? I thought you were in PA.

You know, except for the barricade I don't know how much spectacle it really has. I guess Javert jumping off the bridge too. But sometimes I think, "Les Mis could sure use some scenery or something."

Oh, I don't really mind whether there's dancing, probably but I suck at it. But I do love West Side Story, Cabaret. I'd love to see a staged version of West Side Story. Do you think the new Chorus Line revival will be successful?

A good musical with lots of dancing in Notre Dame de Paris. Have you heard of it? I don't know how good said dancing is but there's a lot of it. There's a DVD of it so it can be rented. It's in French but the music is addicting. I know, when I first heard it I didn't know ANY French. And plus there's an English edition of the songs anyway, even though the English productions flopped. (We don't seem to like foreign musicals. Well, except for the British imports, of course.)

Avenue Q is a blast. And believe me, my brothers and I find plenty of songs to belt out in the car. They are all sort of inappropriate for small children, but they're fun!

The show is amazing, I saw it two years ago with my brothers and sister in law, and we had a blast. It was still the original cast.

I'm looking into getting to see Wicked eventually. And the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee musical. That one is awesomely funny, but also, like Avenue Q, funny weird songs ("My Unfortunate Erection" being one of them!)

I really can't get away though from loving musicals form the 40's 50's and 60's. Guys and Dolls, Anything Goes, Bye Bye Birdie, old good classic stuff. The 80's were disappointing. I like Into the Woods. I dislike Phantom and Cats. I guess my favorite show of all time would be Guys and Dolls, that's my perfect idea of a show...funny dialogue, amazing songs, killer dance numbers, a huge cast and a chase scene. :) I'm easy to please, right?
