Fuck being practical. My dad always says to major in what you love and everything will fall into place. I'm a creative writing/international affairs double major and I have NO IDEA how I'm going to make that into a career, but I'm not going to worry about it. If you try to be solely practical, you'll end up in a job you hate, and life's too short. MAJOR IN LINGUISTICS!
If you really do like medicine, there are some more family-friendly fields like dermatology (BIG BUCKS and you choose your own hours. you'd be able to fund all the travel you want! and have babies) and radiology. Also, there's always the nurse option.
