Fortunate indeed that you were able to turn around! I've had to back up in my kayak in the Everglades, no easy feat.

The Everglades! As in Florida Everglades? Was it really hot and humid? See any crocs? I heard you can get lost in there.

Yep, in Florida. It's not so hellaciously hot in December/January, but there sure are alligators. I have paddled within about 10 feet of one, heart going triple-time.

As for getting lost, I have only done out-and-back paddles for that very reason. Still, it's gorgeous and fascinating.
