Another eventful day

Aug 25, 2009 23:44

My friend who recently got into a car accident, invited me and Anne for Yum Cha @ South juniors today because her mum wants to thank us for being there with her in the hospital. The perfect sunny weather & Yum Cha gave me a false impression that it's Sunday today because we normally go to Yum Cha during weekends only. It wasn't until 4.30pm when me ( Read more... )

There was even a time when brochures saying "Overseas students do not belong here! They're using up all our resources!" were put into everyone's mailboxes. It's quite scary sometimes how they can hate overseas students so much. Afterall we're the ones contributing to nearly 90% of their profits from university courses. We paid SO MUCH MORE than what they have to pay. Oh well... life's unfair. I just hope i won't come across those scary people.

The picture of the lolly-cake above didn't do the cake much justice. It looks better in reality lol~~

I have completed my secondary school in Singapore before so I understand what you mean. There's really a big difference between the treatments of overseas students in Singapore and Australia. I think it's probably because overseas students in singapore are mostly from other parts of Asia and we're all from the same ethnic background (ie. similar skin colours, black hairs) whereas in Australia, not only our physical appearances expose our nationalities right away, but the culture is completely different.

I have also read somewhere about Singapore, being such a small country, can only hope to compete with other countries using their human resources. So singaporeans or not, I think the government would like to retain the overseas students and provide them with very good living environment.

I will take another picture when i get home later lol~~ I'll also post the super simple recipe later :p

Arghh such discrimination makes me mad, but it can't be helped. Although your friend is not to blame and it reflects so badly on the people who questioned her. Rargh. ):

The lolly-cake looks interesting. I've never seen or even heard of anything like that. I wonder if I can find some in Melbourne... ^ ^;

Yeah life is unfair. At the end of the questioning session, the police even said to my friend "maybe there's a pothole on the road and you swerved out of control, maybe it's nothing to do with the truck driver". I was stunned. My friend drove to work everyday for half a year already, taking the same routes everyday, and already know the road off by heart. Who on earth would swerve out of control, hitting so many poles, even uprooting one of them, because of a pothole? Sigh.... the extent of her mocking was really unbelievable. Let's hope we won't come across people like her anymore.

The lolly-cake is really easy to make. Only involves the use of microwave to melt the butter =P The outer layer is normally coated with coconut flakes but i'm not a fan of those. I'll post up the recipe some time (^_^)

What I dislike the most is how they imply that it was incompetence that caused it all. I do agree with you, what's over is over and I hope you guys won't encounter someone like that again! *hug*

That actually sounds like a lamington. XD Are they the same thing? I don't think I'll try to make one but I feel like looking for some really sweet cake to eat now.

I googled lamington... it's similar but not exactly the same coz this lolly-cake is made up of biscuits whereas the sponge cake in the lamington looks like it's made up of something softer :p

I been thru that one before..not as bad as ur friend..
Still..I don't like being questioned as if I am a blind person..

But the officer explained that he need to get clear picture of what had happened cause..the other driver might say differently..and may sue me (not sure if this one is true or not..but my very first police report..what do I know..)

The cake look nice.. :)

I've watch many of those crime scene investigations tv shows and movies, so i understand that they're just doing their job. What they don't show on those tv shows is the horrible attitude of the officers. It must be tough on you too.

Hehe It's very simple to make :)
