For those of you following the news, there's apparently been shooting at the Burlington Mall. I work across the street from the Mall, but was safely inside at work when it happened. We're all locked inside now.

Paper towels
How, I ask, does one make paper towels where the perforations are stronger than the sheets? And why would you do that?
With the paper towels that we currently have, I will frequently grab the loose end, yank on it and end up holding a piece that is torn, not along the perforation, but through the middle of the sheet. -
I love flying
We boarded the plane about an hour late. We are now sitting on the runway with an estimated takeoff time of an hour from now. :-(
I am seriously considering only using direct flights or Amtrak next year. (The connecting flight into PA was also late, although there at least I was able to wait in the terminal.) -
Not "not the smart one"
Since shortly after we got the ferrets, we alternately referred to all of them as "not the smart one". Generally, this was for doing something that (if you have a human sized brain) is obviously not going to work. For example, I clearly remember Jack trying to pry the lid off of the food container. Laziest ferret ever
Bruno, our ferret recovering from double knee surgery, has a strong case of the lazies. At this point, he is recovered enough that he can (without hurting himself) do anything a normal ferret could safely do. However, he prefers to lie around looking cute and helpless. Ferret PT
One of our ferrets (Bruno, not Jack of the recent crisis) had double knee surgery in July. Since then, he has tried to get as much mileage as possible out of being a recovering patient. The vet has given us a simple physical therapy regime to do. Last night and tonight, J decided that he was being too lazy and added swimming to his workout ( Read more... ) -
The patient fights back
Since Monday, Jack has been eating his food and keeping it down. He has also gained weight. After talking with the vet this afternoon, we decided that we did not need to put him to sleep. The long term prognosis has not changed, but he and we have some more time to enjoy each others. -

Improvised A&S project at GNE
Leaving camp Saturday morning, I realized my patten felt weird. On inspection, one of the leather straps had torn loose. After consulting with several of the usual suspects, I found that everyone had packed light that weekend and no one had the normal tools for such a repair.
