One of the fun things about twitter is the fact that you can follow celebrities and reply to them. It sort of makes you feel like you have access to them - that, if by some chance they decide to look at their @replies, they could possibly see yours amongst all the others.

I never actually respond to celebrities thinking that they may respond back

That's hilarious. Susan Orlean is so great! Have you read The Bullfighter Checks Her Make-up? It's a collection of in-depth profiles she's written on various people, and is probably my favorite book of hers (though The Orchid Thief is awesome too).
