Zombies (of various kinds)

I really liked the season premiere of Dollhouse, glad to see the show not only rise from almost certain death via cancellation. but succeed in having a story that's more meaningful than those from the beginning of season 1. Episode two wasn't quite as strong to me, but again, much better than many in season 1. [I find myself very torn: (highlight ( Read more... )

no ads, no nothing!

I know! And they're going to show one this Friday and then preempt the next episode for baseball.

But (and this is an important but), if you're not a Nielsen box person, watching it on Hulu is better anyway because you get counted.

The easiest way I've found to get Hulu from outside the US is to use HotSpot (I think it's www.hotspotshield.com) which assigns you an alternate IP - the IP is always US-based. Sometimes the connection is slow, but in that case just break it off and try again until you get better bandwidth.

I haven't seen episode 2 yet so I've carefully not highlighted! I enjoyed ep 1 though, and I agree it was stronger in many ways than much of season 1.

Yes, thanks! HotSpot was one of the things listed that I saw somewhere but couldn't remember.

I really liked ep 1 a lot. Ep 2 has its strong points as well - Eliza finally pulls off some intense acting. [Again, love her as Faith; not always as convinced by Echo.]

I'm really unable to enjoy Dollhouse in any way, shape or form. I tried my best, but *sigh* it's just so humourless.

It is a rather serious sf concept with a bit of humor and sex laid over. But you're right, it's dark underneath.

Zombieland, on the other hand, is a horror-comedy (just typing that makes me laughs).

It's not that it's dealing with serious issues that I have a problem with, to be honest. I just think the series itself is an Epic Fail. It takes itself and the issues it is raising too seriously but there are inherent contradictions present. I unable to state every single reason that I hate the show so much, but I can provide a link to a blog which articulates my problems with the show a lot better than I can. Here it is: http://www.ferretbrain.com/articles/article-438 Although one of the commenters goes into detail about why he likes the show so much, and your opinion may be similar to his. There are a couple of other articles on Joss Whedon and his shows there as well, that you might be interested in. The website is pretty awesome as a whole.

Zombieland definiely sounds like a hoot. I love horror-comedies! Horror on it's own- not so much.

I'll try the out-of-US Hulu, that might be great! I hope it will work.

Thanks! And I hope it works too. There's so much stuff on Hulu.

Hi,

must confess I haven't been thrilled by what I've read about Dollhouse, and even my nephew, whose a big ED fan, has not been interested enough to keep up with the latest news, though I do send him any ED news I come across. Even the prospect of seeing Alan Tudyk has made me head that way. Probably, once it turns up on Lovefilm (netflix for the UK), I'll check it out then, but I can't say for certain whether I will.

As an aside, I'm up on lj now, and have you as a friend, and would like to sign up for ubific too.

Hoping you'll check out the fics that Ihope I'll be adding as the weeks, and months, ahead, pass.

Still under Willow & Tara's spell
Ray.

Hi there! Welcome aboard.

Dollhouse is getting better, and I found the 'Epitaph One' episode fascinating (but I'm a real egg head for dystopic sf). So I can't wait to see how it gets there, how they really acknowledge the impact this technology could have on humanity.

I'm not able to be very active in fandom these days, and I miss it. [My job changed this semester, and it's absolutely draining.]
