Spanish-English Glossary
Much as I love the show, I almost find it harder to imagine no Hispanic people in southern California than vampires existing. Maybe it’s because I live in that other highly Hispanic region, south Florida. As such, my Chicano may suck since it’s more influenced by Cubans, Peruvians, Venezuelans, etc than Mexicans. If anything's off, please offer concrit on the chapter involved because I’d like to be authentic.
Jorge is pronounced with two soft h sounds: hoar-hay
Abuelita - grandmother
Agua - water
Armado - well hung
Auto de mierda - shit car, lemon
Baño - bathroom
Bruja - witch
Caliente - hot
Cerveza - beer
Chica - different connotations depending upon inflection/context; used here as attractive young woman
Chingada - fuck
Comprende - understand
Estúpido - stupid
Gringo - white guy, usually derogatory
Jorgito - ‘little Jorge’
Loco - crazy
Mañana - tomorrow
Mierda - shit
Muy - very
Señorita - young woman, usually respectful
Señora - Ma’am
Sí - yes
Tamales - thick cornmeal dough, usually filled with meat and sauce
