Yep, but the worst part (if you've read BW's interview) is that S8 transformed Angel into a comicbook cliche (apparently being taken over by "evil" is extremely popular on this medium)

The comics didn't suddenly make this a new thing for Angel, though. And being taken over by evil is a staple of the Buffyverse. Whedon's world has always played with the comics tropes.

This "breaking news" about being a comic cliche was very disappointing to me. I probably expected more, learned my lesson instead.

It's sad (and I'm not an Angel fan)

Well, since crying doesn't help - i'll laugh. ;-)

(I have so many issues with the comics/the authors that the "Angel-issue" is just a blip on the radar. I have been reading positive reviews and opinions about the comics for months to get some enjoyment out of this BtVS continuation - the only TV show i ever "nerded out" over, ever became a fan of.)

The best thing about the comics were the reviews (but I've always looked for the snarky ones)

Twilight being called a "cosmic hobo" has just won Willingham back some of my respect. Not all or even most of it though 'cause... yeah, his arc of Angel was bad... Very bad. Not as bad as S8, but baaaaad.

At least, Willingham is consistent in his opinion - "a child's tantrums can be forgiven; an adult's can't". I understand why he got bored of characters being taking over by the "dark things".

I can't really blame him for growing frustrated with the whole "Your whole story now has to turn 360 and connect to S8 or else fans won't read it and no one will think it's canon and the kerfluffles will start!" and leaving in the middle of production so that Huehner and Tipton could "fix" the plot (he kinda needed to make everything about Angel going evil rather than about Angel being a side character... though why was he keen on making Angel a side character in his own book, I will never know). Although, again, I don't have too much sympathy for him because I cannot understand why he thought all the males of the show were juiced-up sex monsters without feelings or why he gave Spike the emotional maturity of an apple danish, but I've heard worse opinions of the show I love so I digress. XD
