My own empirical experiences have shown me that having had kids later in life gives me a more even temperate with my own children, who are very polite and very well behaved as compared to children of the same age with much younger parents.

Then again, I'm looking less for a friend at 25 than I am ultimate success. If they can be self-sustaining, polite, and above all, truly happy, I'll consider my job well done, whether they Harry Chapin Cat in the Cradle me or not.

I've always thought in households where the children rule the roost, the parents aren't doing the kids any favors. The real world won't cater to them. That's a hard lesson to learn as an adult.

{grins}

When I first began dating my wife she had just separated from her ex-husband and buried her son Ja* with material things as a salve for her guilt of a failed marriage. She did have my sympathy but this…

” aren't doing the kids any favors. The real world won't cater to them.”

..is exactly what I said to her. She gave me dirty looks and may have cursed me under her breath a few time, yet eventually she same to share that opinion. Its better to have them prepared so they can be happy on their on.
