Have you ever wished that God gave you some kind of penance so that you could feel assured that your sins were forgiven. And then you feel bad for that thought b/c you realize u need to grow in concept of grace and receive what God did on the cross, b/c he wanted me.

yea..and accepting grace seems to be a difficult task esp when you realize the depths of your depravity.i tend to follow that up with wanting to earn my salvation with works..but i dont know i just keep running into these realizations that i really suck and desperate for grace....and sometimes its really difficult to take in

Well if you were Catholic back in Luther's time, you buy you way to grace.
