BINGO.
Agreed 1 bazillion percent.

Also,

"...you need to know that this singing career is bigger than a job. It is an entire lifestyle. The fact that you are your business, that your business is dependent on following a schedule set by others, that your business is your life is not something you can avoid. It is what it is."

Been There, Still There Presently.

BUT (and I admit, this IS a Very Large But) I knew that going into this fruitcake farm business; I had several relatives and close family friends who were in various parts of the entertainment industry that I observed ever since I was a little kid, and I knew from watching their lives on the merry-go-round that it wasn't gonna be easy.

Or put another way, I CHOSE to be here.
(Irrespective of the fact that the profession chose me long before I even thought about choosing it....)

Totally. And that´s why I gave the career part of it up about ten years ago. Some people are a) talented enough, b) ambitious enough and c) toughskinned enough to deal with all this, I am neither of the three. When I realized my whole life was reduced on where, when and how I was singing next, and how to avoid bankruptcy yet another few days, and somehow it all was never enough.. I stopped the train and got off. I won´t lie, I do miss the excitement and the adrenaline and the companionship during shows and and and. But I´m not cut out for it on a lifelong basis. I love singing, but I love it more as a hobby than as a job, for sure. And that is what everybody who thinks about a singing career should consider: just how much are they prepared to invest into it.
