Moving in general is a bitch--esp. if a company is involved. USAA also has relocation services, but in the end you pay more (I think) because all they do is route you to unscrupulous firms that show up late (if at all) and break/lose/damage your things.
Our move from DC to Austin went flawlessly (to our surprise). We scheduled one of those big trailers to be dropped off, filled it up completely and it arrived in Austin one day after we did. Then we called a local firm called "Labor Ready" and hired 6 guys to help us unload and we were done in four hours. (We gave them all beverages and cash for lunch on top of their hourly pay). All-in-all, the cross-country move cost us about $1,000. But if you factor in our time to organize/orchestrate everything--and gas and hotel fees during our drive--probably closer to $1,500.
