Well, I get two window units for my apartment, and the heatwave rolls overhead. The rest of the week will still be warm, but not as muggy as the last couple of (brutal) days

One has to wonder...do music teachers fail so much that they don't or can't teach even basic instrument care, or do students fail so much that they don't listen?
To be fair, sometimes it's not the student, it's the parent who thinks they're being helpful. My violin teacher liked to tell of one of her student's dad, who decided he would fix his daughter's violin himself after the bridge fell off. By gluing it on. Yeeeaaaah.
It's both, really. The other problem we get is: KIDS LIE. They lie because they don't want to get in trouble for damaging their instruments. The thing is, if we *know* how it got damaged, it's a hell of a lot easier to reverse the damage and get the horn back into the kid's hands.
Oboe fail! Holy cow!! Don't worry, all of my classmates and I are of the opinion that NOTHING is worse for an oboe than letting a non-repair person try to make ANY adjustment on it!
Keeping fingers & toes crossed for good house news soon!
I didn't play the oboe, just bassoon and clarinet. Still, I don't think I ever once thought about messing with any of the screws on them. I think the only repairs my instruments ever needed were replacing loose pads.
Whether it was as student or parent, someone probably noticed that a screws were 'loose' and decided to tighten them. They probably figured they were doing the right thing.
On a totally unrelated note: looking out the window just now, I saw a car just like yours go by on 28. Don't see man of that model in that color around here.

Yeah, the yellow-orange Fit seems to be a rare bird. I've seen the pink-orange ones around and about and I really don't like that color as much.
