WELL IT'S IMPLIED THAT there's still ~something~ of Eraqus around, based on what Terra and MX in the black space say to each other in the ending. idek.

Also, notice that MASTER XEHANORT'S BODY also turns into light when he takes over Terra - I'm not sure to what to make of it, but I think it's definitely worth noting.

"Fades" is the translation I USED to see for Nobodies all the time, but is seems to have fallen into disuse? I haven't seen it used since, oh, about the time DaysBBSCoded were announced.

THIS IS TRUE I had forgotten. I think the turning/fading into light/dark IS a shorthand for death - so there're no inconvenient corpses hanging around. But then the same thing did happen with Sora when he killed himself/turned himself into a heartless for Kairi, so. HMM.

Yeah! It seems more prevalent with the nobodies, maybe 'cause of their tentative grasp of existence in the first place AND ALSO that they fade into the dark, which is generally seen as something with a proto-conciousness that wants to eat everything. (Not sure about that. I want to poke it more and see if I can't get a dark-using healer or something.)

Vanitas~~! <3 The scenes I've read in the first two novels have been pretty fantastic! Haven't read everything there yet, though, must go back to them

I'm basing that off the translations I saw of the Japanese version, so it might be better for you to head over to youtube. I actually haven't finished the English version orz forever.

And it is definitely more common with Nobodies, but I still haven't seen it in a very long time. And I don't think anyone outside myself and a few like-minded friends ever used it for Repliku, even though he disappears the
exact same way a Nobody does.

That's just a summary, really, so I'd love to see your impressions/translation of it when you get to it! But as a Vanitas fan, my heart is hurting now, orz. (Where did all my Vanitas icons go...?)

Ahaha, no, this is the Japanese version, which is why it's taking fucking forever because I'm translating it properly! (As opposed to skimming it for understanding.)

Mmm. I haven't read much in the way of canon-fic for a long time, either - don't really see it around, and also I don't like angst - so I wouldn't know the trends. HUH that is weird.

Impressions will definitely be up! When it comes to translation I first want to pick up my 358/2 Days project - which I started before it was out in English, but one of my rules-to-myself was to not play the English version until I'd finished translating the scene myself, so, uh. Still haven't got to the English version for that. (My Japanese was so much worse back then, and I was doing the transcription longhand. LONGHAND. FROM crappy DS kanji. Yeaaaah, there's a reason it got stalled.) But after that definitely the novels! .o/ Not sure where I'd want to start with them, but I definitely want to! :D
