Pairing: Cuddy/Cameron
Rating: PG-13

It started when she lost the baby.

Cameron showed up at unexpected moments, with her small smile and sad eyes. She stood with her hands in her pockets and asked if she could pick up takeout or run errands for Cuddy. It was unusual, and completely expected.

Or so Cuddy believed.

Cameron had an affinity for broken people. Helping was her narcotic. Cuddy thought she should have been a mechanic; cars were easier to fix than people.

It was a month after she had lost her baby before Cuddy realized that Cameron was not behaving normally. Her attempts to comfort Cuddy were more subdued and subtle, more sensitive. It was as if Cameron knew her pain personally, as if she had lost a child.

When Cuddy started sleeping at the office in order to avoid going home to the empty nursery with blue wallpaper and a tiny crib, Cameron did what she had to. She gave Cuddy a key to her apartment.

"You don't have to go through this alone," she said.

Cuddy cried, and Cameron was there just like she promised.
