It's been awhile since the last post as we got the news about our landlady, back in Sydney, wanting the flat empty whilst she does extensive renovations. We picked ourselves up and began the race back across the southern end of the continent. A not altogether short drive involving around 6,000+ kilometres ( Read more... )

Sounds amazing, shame it was rushed. Your family history sounds so intriguing as well.

heh, go back to the 1500's in Oxfordshire & you find two Hobcrofts being murdered by a highwayman in their inn which is still there 'Hobcroft's Holt'. Jump a couple of 100 years into Cornwall, and you find two of the Lightfoot's on my mum's side being hung as murderers. In fact the last ones to be hung apparently - have a bizarre description of the entire event in a copy from a Cornish broadsheet. Our family has a wierd karmic balance :)

Aye, that it was! The ultimate Australian roadtrip :) Feels quite odd to be back in a major city again but we're packing up the flat and will soon be back out in the countryside again. Can't deal with the city lifestyle anymore. Done it for way too long and now have a taste for the flip side involving fresh air!

Going to stay at a friend's farm just south of Sydney where they're attempting to raise heritage animals. We hope to learn some farming techniques and get on with buying our own little plot :) That's Stage II...

I had thought the largest pit had been Escondida in Chile, but it I wouldnt' be surprised if that had been superceeded by either the Super Pit in Oz or Phalaborwa in South Africa, or wossname in Zambia.

Ie: I'm not currently sure.
