... out of nowhere... it descended, knocking us sideways!
Apart from those who have read my random facebook rants (if anyone knows how to synch the two please let me know), you might just ask 'WHAT did'? ( These did... )
Sounds like a thoroughly crappy day or two :(. I hope you all get healthy quickly, and that the stolen stuff shows up. It sounds like some of the tools and jewellery, especially, are pretty unique, and hopefully traceable?
May the rest of your travels be only the *good* kind of interesting!
Thankyou! This user icon is one taken whilst flying over Lake Eyre. I'm remembering the beautiful experiences and taking note that they far outweigh the unpleasant ones!
Ick! I hope your full health returns soon, and hope that at least some of the jewellery makes its way to a pawn shop and can be recovered. At least most of what they took from you will likely be sold on and eventually wind up in the hands of someone who will use/appreciate it--the one time my vehicle was broken into they got only a suitcase full of garb and another of armour, which was probably just tossed into a dumpster somewhere as useless... I'm also glad you were in a position to be able to replace some tools promptly.
I agree but there wasn't much jewellery of the retail shop kind, mostly good tools that they'll find very very hard to fence on to someone else. Even a pawn shop is going to be extremely suspicious. These are setting tools with beautifully turned rosewood palm handles (like mushroom balls) and hallmarking stamps etc. Most of them are marked in some way so I'll know they're mine. Luckily I did this early on with many of the tools when I was still learning and sharing workshops with other people and it made sense so I'd know which ones were my tools. I've been robbed a few times now but always from my place of abode and twice I had contents insurance which at least was useful. We didn't get travel contents insurance as it was too expensive :( But you're right, I am meditating on the fact that I have some beautiful new Japanese tools and today, if we're well enough after lunch, we're going to borrow Dad's car and traipse into the city to look at the jewellery tool seller, who I know personally so the prices should be reasonable
( ... )
Thanks lovely one :) The jewellery trade is a fairly small one & once the word gets around, there's a reasonable chance I might hear something on the grape vine (must remember to talk to Daniel about this as they can put a note up on the HOJ website about it too). The tools are VERY unique, many are handforged but, as you say, I'm just glad N is ok. Just wish the bugger wasn't playing tag coz now both Dad & I have it too! It's clearing extremely fast though & am crossing fingers it's not one of those recurring infections that waves in and out for weeks. I'm dying to head south to the big forests...
That sounds not only frustrating and annoying but scary as well. People not being able to breathe is very scary. Glad that N is ok and hope you all feel well soon.
Sounds like a very strange thief (or thieves). Hope they get caught trying to flog your tools.
He seems to be making a habit of it too! At his birthday dinner, held by his parents last year, he tried to laugh and eat a piece of potato at an unfortunate moment and did the same run around the house choking dance. Completely freaked us all out but at least I knew what to do and got him to sit down, put his head between his knees and gave him a big whack on the back. It worked thanks be to the gods! Wish he'd stop it!!
I'm wondering what the Iron Thief Chefs cooked up for dinner that night! It was most annoying as we didn't notice the mince gone until we went to cook a spaghetti bolognese the next night.
