I think I may continue on with the next course in the series - not a credit class, but as a continuing education class. I like the idea of being able to make gifts for people ( Read more... )

What exactly do you do? Like, shape metals, make things out of glass, that kind of thing? I'm so jealous, I'd love to take a class like that, can't wait to see your pieces at the end!

We work with non-ferrous metals, usually copper, brass, nickel, sometimes bronze, sterling silver. Silver's kind of expensive so I'm saving it for the nicer things. :)

The sorts of things we've learned to do are... cutting shaped out of metal, riveting two or more pieces of metal together, soldering, texturing with various hammers, polishing, sandblasting, making band rings, making metal beads, bezel-setting stones (cabochons, no faceted stones yet)... there's more, but I can't think of it right now. It's super fun!

Wow! You could make a stirling silver pendant of a leaf, like a maple leaf or something, it could be quite Lord of the Rings/Elvish looking!

Awesome!

I'm thinking of doing some continuing education for cooking and painting. Since I don't have formal education in either.

Having just watched the Neverending Story, how about the orrin amulet thingy :)
Or, toe rings?
Anything with petals would be nice ~ the trick would be doing a specific flower, orchid, lily, iris, etc,.
