Tian drabble

Alice said I could, so I am.

I'm not entirely sure what Tian's backstory is, but I know just enough that the little pieces are driving me crazy. I've decided I'll just write out the random scenes that pop into my head and worry about whether or not they completely clash with his 'real' story later.

Term them AU, if you want. I just want them out of my head.

Halloween

The lights flickered on and off in a spastic array of colors, completely out of time with the booming beat of the music that blared out of the state of the art surround sound speaker set installed in every room. Bodies moved haphazardly, some doing a credible imitation of dancing, some not so credible, and more still only barely managed to stay on their feet as alcohol replaced the blood in their veins.

Best of all were the costumes, each more wild and outlandish than the next. There were witches and warlocks, mummies and harem girls, a succubus whose costume barely counted as such, kings and knights and damsels in distress, and more still arriving with every passing moment.

Halloween was so much more fun than All Hallows Eve.

Tian curled up in his chosen chair, watching the partiers with amusement as he sipped from his blood-colored drink. Years ago, this night would have been one of fear and superstition - not entirely unfounded - and he'd usually had to find a place to hole up and hide until the fervor passed.

These days he could walk among them and no one would even bat an eye, no matter what form he was in. He'd even gotten compliments on his 'costume' a number of times; they had no idea what they were really seeing.

Today his hair was blue, as were his eyes, though his skin was nothing fancy. He'd let his ears shift into their natural elongated taper, poking up through his hair and clearly visible to anyone who looked. Funny, how everyone assumed they were plastic.

His clothes were his only real costume, soft shimmery black fabric 'artfully' torn and laced up in front and at his hips. He'd trimmed it in metallic orange, which clashed something horrible with his hair but he didn't particularly care. Orange was a proper Halloween color, so he was going to wear it. Maybe if he made his hair black and orange it would look better...

He was contemplating doing just that when something caught his eye. Someone, rather. Two someones, very clearly inebriated, but still managing to dance with some semblance of tipsy grace. Their costumes practically molded to their bodies like a second skin, practically to the point of indecent, and from the way the light glinted and shimmered in places, he suspected that at least one of them was wearing glittered bodypaint.

Tian barely noticed when he licked his lips. Now there was a sight to behold.

There was no telling how long he watched them, but he knew the second they noticed him. The shorter one's dancing slowed, his gaze sliding over Tian for a long moment, then he reached out to tug on his friend's shirt, distracting the other man from his dance partner of the moment as something was murmured into in his ear.

Almost as one, they both turned to look at him.

Tian knew that look. Knew exactly what it meant. He weighed his options, considered possible outcomes, and made his choice. He smiled, just a little bit.

The taller one stepped toward him, the shorter only a pace behind. They weren't quite as graceful when they weren't dancing, but they still did a remarkably good job considering the amount of alcohol in their bloodstreams. They reached him together, flanking his chair on either side and looking down with promising smiles.

"Hello," the shorter one purred.

Tian smiled back. "Hello."

"Did you like our dancing?" the taller one asked, leaning in so closely that he could almost be mistaken for menacing if not for his sultry smile and the desire that Tian could smell radiating from his skin.

It was an effort not to lick his lips again. "Oh yes," Tian breathed.

"Would you like to... dance with us?" the shorter one asked, tongue darting out to wet his own lips. There was absolutely no question what kind of dancing he meant.

Tian wanted to lick him. "I would not wish to intrude..."

They both laughed, one slightly deeper than the other, then they each took one of his hands and pulled him up to tumble into their arms.

"You aren't," was breathed softly into his ear, making him shiver.

"Well then," Tian managed, his voice slightly unsteady, "Shall we dance?"

Laughter bubbled up all around him as they led him away from the noise and the party and the dancers, until they found a quiet place where they could do a different kind of dancing.

And if they wondered why his ears couldn't come off or his eyes randomly changed color, well, they had been drinking. Copious amounts of alcohol and a dazzling array of costumes could easily play tricks on the human mind. No doubt come morning it would be chalked up to a very exquisite dream.

Tian really did love Halloween.
