Two weeks out from the first installment of The Hobbit, Wellington is officially bonkers. Official events include:

* Banners everywhere promoting The Hobbit
* Hobbit silhouettes on the post office building
* Bag End door installation at Wellington Embassy theater
* Gollum installation at airport
* Traffic blocked/cut off downtown on day of movie ( Read more... )

I still can't believe the movie's actually coming out!

Agree with you about delaying the debut of the movie if it's impossible to meet it without massively overworking everybody in the process. I want the movie to be great, and how can that happen if everyone working on it is over-stressed?

Despite the hideous pressure they do seem to be producing a great movie.

Who would have thought, nine years ago, we'd be doing this ALL OVER AGAIN??

I'm told that the key thing is the pre-christmas cinema slot. With several hundred million developed-world children to be entertained (the other billion kids get sent to collect goat poos), having a film in this is a near certain earner. A film in late January when the northern hemisphere is back at school is not.
Hence the need to have it ready in time.

When I think of some of the mandatory-fun holiday activities I was subjected to, goat poo duty sounds pretty good.
