Rambling About S,R and MB

Finally (finally!) managed to outline chapter by chapter what I would like to do with the rest of S,R. Before my outline only consisted of six major plot points, so this is good. If I've already wandered off outline in the first chapter since completing it...well, that's between me and my fickle brain.

I dislike Head Hopping with passion. Flashbacks though... I used them a few times. I think if used correctly and in moderation they can work.

I see them done well so rarely that I just blanket statement them as bad. Most often they are used in original work to fill in information that the writer discovered about their original character that they realized late in the story and either didn't know how or were to lazy to go back and re-write their novel to accommodate it. I've seen it happen with FanFic also, to a lesser degree. Worst is when a writer needs to distinguish it and can't figure out how, so resorts to labeling it:

*flashback*
Hermione etc...
