... how much more obvious can they get?

I read some more of The Two Towers last night and found this absolutely wonderful paragraph. Maybe I'll write fic about it one day, but for now let me share Tolkien's own words:

Sam looked at him. The early daylight was only just creeping down into the shadows under the trees, but he saw his master's face very clearly, and his hands, too, lying at ( Read more... )

Yeah Sam takes it too far to be considered hero worship or anything else. That hobbit has a biig crush on Frodo xD

Exactly! I wonder how people can actually believe that Sam merely cares for Frodo as a friend. He does a lot more than that! XD

heheh, it is quite obvious hey! I must have missed that as when the first movie came out (oh gosh, it was quite a while ago! 2001! When childhood innocence still prevailed! =D), that was when I read the books and I had not been inducted into world of slash, so did not see everything with slash goggles - but I did remember thinking in the movie, Sam and Frodo were a bit pal-ly. XD hahaha. I guess Peter Jackson was true to the book then.

Now the logical side of me is saying that back in those days, it was probably perfectly normal to say that without it having any underlying meaning, but you know, where's the fun in that?

If you ever get round to writing a fic for that, share! (and remind us that it's *the* fic, I would love to read it. =P

Well, yes, of course it was perfectly normal in those days to say one loved someone without implying anything that goes beyond friendship. Still, friends don't usually watch each other sleep that attentively, do they? And Sam even thinks that Frodo is beautiful. Even if I took off my slash goggles, that line would catch my attention and give me slashy ideas. ;)

Will definitely let you know once I get around to write that fic. :)

Wellllll.... Sam and Frodo have always been very close in both book and movie even before they were stuck in the middle of a treacherous journey all by their lonesome self with nought but a Gollum for company. ;P

And back then, people were a lot more poetic in their writing, right? =D

But then again, back then homosexuality probably wasn't allowed to be written about in an upfront manner so that's probably how they wove it secretly into the story so future generations can read it and dissect it and see it for what it truly is! =D

I think that's one of the reasons I never red LOTR slash, it's like is so, so canon it's like not necessary.

Wonderful paragraph indeed, makes me wanna grab the books =)

LOL! Good point! But I guess I would miss the porn, so I definitely need LotR slash. XD

So, I was looking for the book meme which I know someone on my FList has, but I can't find it yet, but I found this, anyway...

I thought the sweetest couple in LOTR was actually Gimli and Legolas, it's a total mix of Romeo and Juliet meets Darcy and Elizabeth...two people whose parents totally hate each other's guts but they find love and companionship anyway although at first they claim to hate each other as well. They even build and take the last ship from Middle Earth...AWWW
