I don't understand the whole fic-avoidance thing (by people who actually like slash). Sure, there's some not-so-great writing out there, but it's really not that hard to sift through it and find the gems buried within. I can generally tell if I'm not going to like a fic after reading a few lines, so it's not as if it's that time-consuming to give everything a try. I similarly don't understand those readers who only read the writers they already know - after all, there's always the hope of a good new writer popping up!

Exactly. I usually filter fic by author, not by pairing. Everyone gets a fair chance from me, of course, but if a certain author has disappointed me twice, I won't read any of their stuff again. However, I'd NEVER boycott a pairing just because there are so many bad writers. If I did that, I'd miss out on so much awesome stuff!
