I hope they'll take the World Cup qualification a bit more seriously than this (admittedly meaningless) friendly. *sigh* But you never know with this team, do you? Lots of people here (especially in the media) say that the German team is a tournament team, and this totally shows at the moment.

I haven't found any information on this on the net, only read a bit about it on German videotext. Apparently, the FIFA decided that from now on, national teams aren't allowed to have names on the back of their jerseys anymore and they have to assign the numbers accordingly to the players that are called up. Meaning that if 18 players are called up, they have to use the numbers from 1-18 and nothing else. Stupid, if you ask me. Not only is it majorly confusing for the opponent to prepare for the game, and the coaches can't tell their players to watch the #10 anymore, for example, and also, it's bad for merchandising, because who's going to buy jerseys with numbers on them only?

And don't they have to have 1-11 at all times, hence the weird numbers (Lahm = 3 {hisloveforarneissotransparent} and Poldi = 10)?

There is an adorable pic of Poldi showing his stomach to Daniel after the match. Different teams, but still teammates at heart.

Yeah, they have to reassign the numbers before each game accordingly to the number of players that are called up. 18 called up players means you're only allowed to use the numbers from 1-18. *facepalm*

Lahm = 3 {hisloveforarneissotransparent}
That was so adorable! :D

Ooooh! May I see that pic? I switched off the telly directly after the game because I was so bored. Seems I shouldn't do that anymore, I always miss great DvB stuff! :/

OMG, that first pic! You're right, Lukas is totally staring! O_O

Love the other pics, too! And OMG, you included Becks! Thank you! I wish I had seen that game, it must have been a lot more interesting than the Germany-Belgium one.

Why can't I live in Spain? Or Denmark? Then I'd get to see my Spaniards as well as Agger
Gah, I know what you mean. They didn't show the match here in Sydney, and after having seen the result (and the scorers!) I'm even more annoyed!

am I the only one who is incredibly amused about the fact that not only is Iker's first name of Basque origin but it also means VISITATION?
OMG that is made of so much hilarious! Honestly, how random.

By the way, that new "no names on jerseys anymore" FIFA rule sucks.
WHAT WHAT WHAT?

As I told you in that other comment, I so hope someone will upload the game somewhere, because I HAVE TO SEE IT! Kicker wrote a little article about it, full of praise for the Spaniards' good form and their unbeaten run of now 26 games, and both Xavi and Xabi scored, which makes me want to watch the game even more ( ... )

What is 'Kicker'? *feels lost but notices that 'Kicker' rhymes with 'Íker'*

I knew his name was Basque (I think I Googled it because I found the name Íker to be really cool), but 'Visitation'? That's just bizarre. XD Perhaps there's some other epic meaning which is more suited to his Íkerness.
As for why his parents gave him a Basque name, I found this on the internet: His parents worked in Bilbao, Basque Country (autonomous community) for some time before he was born and simply liked the name Iker so much that they decided to give it to him when he was baptized. His younger brother also has a Basque name, Unai (English: shepherd). Shepherd?
I also found this: Casillas was the only Madrid player to use public transport to get to training sessions in the 1999/00 season, because he was too young at the time to have a driver's license. Ah, heartwarming! *imagines little Íker on a crowded bus*

Ugh, how stupid, for lack of a better word. Indeed, merchandising would just go out the window - who's going to buy a number 9 jersey if they' ( ... )

"Kicker" is a German football magazine/newspaper. I subscribe to it and get it twice a week. Of course, they focus on German football, but there's the occasional intriguing article about the EPL and La Liga as well as the Argentinean league, which is great. :)

OH! I just noticed something. Is there a reason why you (and so many others) put an accent on Iker's name? *is a bit confused* (I've wanted to ask someone else for ages but never managed to put up the courage, afraid they'd get me wrong or anything.)

Aw, that is an awesome story! And totally understandable! I think Iker is a great name! :) By the way, seems that the page I found is a bit less liberal at translating the names... That's what Unai means, according to them. XD

*imagines little Íker on a crowded bus*
*dies of cute* AWWW!!!

who's going to buy a number 9 jersey if they're not sure that Torres will end up wearing it?
I know! Just stupid. I do hope it was just a misunderstanding...

Behind the name! I love that site. I have it bookmarked, because I'm always checking interesting stuff like you did with Iker's name. XDDD Anyway... Visitación? WTF?!?!?!? XDDDD

It's a really interesting site! I think I should browse it a bit more often and look up some other names! :D
So you haven't heard of Visitación as a first name, either? That's a relief. I was wondering if I was the only one not getting it. *scratches head*

Thank God, I have never heard of someone called Visitación. I don't know in Spain, though... they use some strange names over there. XD
