100% spot on about the sort of voyerism that is = with jealousy. btw, a sudden thought that this fic induced: aren't we, [female] writers of slash, self-appointed voyerists in our own fics? that is, when we're above writing blatant Mary Sues as the means to rectify this painful fact;))

Thank you. :)

Oh, that's an interesting question! I think it depends on the writer. I'm not jealous of any of my characters, rather of the fact that they perform m/m slash as such, which I will never be able to do. But we're certainly "watching" them getting it on (and depending on the quality of the fic, there usually are some reactions to it), so we're clearly not innocent either. ;)
However, if reading slash fic makes me a voyeurist, I'm definitely a proud (and lucky) one. :D

spying on our characters, with/without jealousy dastier May 9 2006, 17:09:42 UTC
hm, come to think of it, there *are* fics where the author is no more than an observer/scribe with little say in the matter but the work to put down what's going on. and there are some particular characters that seem to keep their freedom even in a [fan]ficitonal world and dictate how they want to act...those i envy. somehow Bush always turns out to be such one: you'd think he's fairly predictable, but then he pulls some weird reaction out of his sleeve and puts the plotline into utter chaos O_o always fun to observe!

Oh, I write like that all the time. I watch my muses. :D That definitely is voyeurism, though I daresay there are people who only love one of the characters they write about and use the other as sort of a bridge... I'd never be able to do that. My characters are better off with each other than with me. :)

And I think you just found the reason why I'm so uncomfortable writing Bush (and convinced I can't do it properly). While I'm accustomed to people acting weird and not doing what I want them to do, Bush is totally unpredictable and unreadable. Makes me love him the more, really. :)

That was a great way to write this scenario.

I would never have thought of it.
