Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!
"Is not Shame the soil of all Virtue(...)?"
[1] [BGM 'Rain']
This is a quote by British critic and thinker,
Thomas Carlyle-san.
This was sent in by listener Nishiki-chan, age 22. The message reads:
"Satoshi-kun, good morning. On the Friday morning of 28th November, I was listening to
Satoshi-kun's radio show on the crowded train as usual. Right at the end, when you freestyle-rapped the email address, in desperately trying to stifle my laughter, I dropped my smartphone and my earphones came out. Satoshi-kun's rapping of the email address resounded loudly around the train. All the salarymen and office ladies around me burst out laughing. I was really embarrassed. But after that, a high-school girl who was nearby helped me pick up my smartphone and asked, "So you like Ohno-kun?" She also was apparently an Ohno-kun fan. We got into a lively conversation and became friends just like that. I never thought I'd be able to make friends with someone 6 years younger than me who was also an Ohno-kun fan. "Unexpected benefits," I thought. Satoshi-kun, have you ever had an embarrassing incident that turned out well in the end?"
That's exactly it. The fact that you made a friend is great. And with me as the source of it! Man, I'm happy about that. But I'm also kinda embarrassed! That was... It was fine just for the audience. How embarrassing, Nishiki-chan! But I'm glad you made a friend. I'm also kinda embarrassed, though.
But well, as for how is it for me? It's rare that things turn out as well as that. Like, I often dress in drag for TV and do all sorts of things. Is there any benefit to it? (laughs)
But it's happened, like, um, in the past. I was in the car and the car that had stopped next to us at the red light had the window wide open. The person inside was singing their heart out. When I looked over and caught their gaze, their voice gradually became smaller. (laughs) And then they gradually closed their window. There wasn't really anything beneficial out of that. That was awkward, huh? Mm.
But yeah, that's happened. Certainly, if you drop your phone and the earphones get unplugged, it'll resound. I've gotten more careful about that. Previously, I'd recorded some long lines on my phone. And then I'd done the female character's bits too, right. And then I dropped my phone... (in a feminine voice) "Wait!" Something like that was playing at the time and I was so embarrassed. "I'm not the culprit!" That was playing at the time, I was so embarrassed.
Yeah. I'll stop doing any more rap. But the timing was spot-on, huh? Did you do that on purpose, Nishiki-chan? You couldn't do that on purpose. (laughs)
Be careful! Seriously. But I'm glad you made a friend out of it!
That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!

[1] Full(er) quote from Carlyle's
Sartor Resartus, 1836:
'Is not Shame (_Schaam_) the soil of all Virtue, of all good manners and good morals? Like other plants, Virtue will not grow unless its root be hidden, buried from the eye of the sun. Let the sun shine on it, nay do but look at it privily thyself, the root withers, and no flower will glad thee.'
