"The board's green and go as far as I'm concerned," he calls back. "Which way to your hide-out? The sooner you guys get stashed, the sooner I can get digging."
Veronica follows along shortly behind. The sun's out, and she slips on her baseball cap for a moment before realizing that it blocks her view of the sky.
She'll have to make do with squinting.
As she stashes it in her backpack, she calls: "Doing just fine. But I'm with the rock - the sooner we get out of the open, the better."
"Fair enough," calls Quinn. "We're not that far from the old hotel- I'd say a hundred, hundred fifty yards, and over that rise there. This was the closest big opening I could manage."
"Then let's get moving," Naraht says, suiting action to word. The gravel grinds and crunches underneath him as the group moves out.
He's not going to mention it to Quinn, but this scorched, grey world bears more than a slight resemblence to Janus IV. With much better surface weather, of course.
The horse snorts, ears slanting back, but nobody asked his opinion. Still, he seems all right- not that Ross was ever easily spooked in the first place.
"Some of the vegetation around here's been growing back lately," Quinn notes as they pass a low, ruddy clump of plants. "Not much of use to humans, but it's recolonising. Better than nothing, y'know?"

The last time she was here -- Well. Things didn't go so well. But a promise is a promise, even if it's one you've only made to yourself.
Dutifully she hefts her pack and trudges along behind Naraht in silence.
