Linux normally gives me a vi or vim when I edit with them. For some reason this time they gave me a GNU Emacs. This editor clearly requires a graduate degree to operate. The keyboard shortcuts alone would require a whole course. It is some weird multichord contraption that took a while for me to figure out. It isn't really manual but it isn't ( Read more... )

You think there's decent editor options in emacs? How optimistic of you. Best as I've ever found, there isn't.

"M-x viper" will make an Emacs less Emacs-like, but for some reason it just feels so ... i don't know, wrong? I mean, it feels like installing Linux on a G4 and making a Mac-looking window manager the default under X.
