Buffy had grabbed a red uniform shirt and black pants, as well as a pair of boots. Once dressed, she attached several of her knives and a retractable staff. Kirk was acting captain, and he and Spock were planning to stowaway on Nero’s ship in order to sabotage it before Nero could destroy Earth like he had Vulcan.

She headed for the transporter room. She could feel the power in her veins as she dashed through the halls, barely avoiding running into anyone.

At the door to the transporter, she managed to slow long enough for the doors to open. It was a hive of activity. Scott was working at the controls with two others. Kirk, Spock, and Uhura stood on the transporter pad.

Buffy’s timing being what it was, she had managed to catch the tail-end of an intimate moment between Spock and Uhura. With a force of will, she ignored them and stepped over to stand on Kirk’s right.

“What are you doing?” he demanded of her.

“Getting ready to leave,” she replied evenly.

“You are not coming with us,” he told her.

“Watch me,” Buffy told him.

“If you die-”

“Promises, promises.”

His face went red at her attitude.

“Winters,” Spock addressed her as Uhura exited, “you are not assigned to this mission.”

“I am going. Unless you boys want to take Nero and his crew of unknown numbers alone…”

“The more people on this mission increases the likelihood of being caught.”

Buffy blanked her face and used logic instead. “I have skills that are better put to use on the enemy ship than here.” She looked at Kirk. “My coming along will guarantee a positive outcome.”

Kirk shook his head. “It’s your life.”

A few minutes later they arrived in the not-quite-empty cargo bay of Nero’s ship.

"Damnit, Scott,” she cursed the engineer who had teleported them.

Buffy rolled away as someone fired at them. Spock and Kirk took cover in different directions. As she moved, she pulled her staff out and extended it. She swung it around her head, building enough momentum to crush the entire ribcage of the large Romulan that attacked her. She grabbed a knife from her chest and flung it into someone pinning Kirk down.

Spock watched as Buffy spring-boarded into more phaser shots, taking out two opponents.

“Slayer!” Kirk yelled as he took down another Romulan, “Three more.”

“Two!” Spock called out as another fell.

“One,” Buffy replied. She was locked in a fistfight with the last one. He was better trained than the others and she was having a hard time finding an opening. She kicked out at him, able to push him back a few steps. Two phaser blasts hit him at the same time.

She looked over to see Kirk and Spock standing, aiming at the fallen Romulan.

“I had it,” she told them.

Spock found one of the Romulans who was not dead, just unconscious.

“I’ll cover you,” Kirk said.

“Are you certain?” Spock asked.

“Yeah. I got ya.”

Spock nodded and proceeded to meld with the Romulan.

Buffy found the nearest station and started looking over schematics and information. According to Prime Spock, Nero’s ship was more than a hundred and fifty years advanced. The drill was the biggest worry. And as she was working on getting it retracted, the computer was locked out. “Damnit!” she brought her fist down in frustrations, breaking the interface.

“This way!” Kirk yelled, drawing her attention.

Spock was going to take the black hole ship and destroy the drill, while Buffy and Kirk tried to rescue Pike.

“Just for the sake of saying it,” she told them. “If I don’t get off this ship, retrieve my body.”

Spock raised an eyebrow, but nodded.

“If you insist,” Kirk replied.

“Great. Let’s get Pike.” Buffy headed away from the cockpit.

“Ensign Winters seems…unconcerned by the situation,” Spock said objectively.

“So it seems,” Kirk said. “Good luck.”

Kirk jogged off the little ship.

“So is he in the brig or the medbay?” Buffy asked as they watched Spock take off.

“Torture chamber, a deck up.”

She made a face. “Damn. This way.”

“How do you know?”

“Memorized the schematics. The drill controls should be through here with a connection to the next deck.”

“You memorized them?” he questioned.

“First rule of breaking into the enemy stronghold: figure out the structure.”

“And the second rule?”

“Avoid traps.” She grabbed his arms and pulled him to the side as the door they neared opened. She waited only a moment for the door to close before she brought her staff down on the big Romulan’s neck. The sickening crack assured her his neck was broken. Buffy grabbed his collar and pulled him out of the way.

Kirk watched in surprise at her strength. She’s so small, he thought as she toted the guy twice her weight to the shadows.
