Notes: Buffy is immortal and resurrects when killed as a side effect of Willow’s spells. This exists as an alternate timeline to my “The Path Less Taken” novel length story on TTH.

Buffy stood, shocked at the events being reported. A starship had been destroyed by an unknown enemy. The Kelvin was destroyed and had only managed to cripple its opponent.
For the first time since the War, she felt moved to act. She felt fire in her veins and interest in the world around her. There was an enemy, something large and dangerous. She wanted to join the fight.
She sat down at her console and reviewed the information she had on Starfleet. They accepted a large range of people. But all her aliases had been burned. There was nothing about her in any Federation database. She would have to start from scratch.
The thing was as she prepared to change and forge documents there was nothing else. The enemy disappeared. So instead of risking discovery with incomplete records, she reported a birth and created a live trail.

Buffy sighed at the document in her hand. She was finally back on Earth. Any second now her Starfleet interview would begin.
“Hello,” a tall man said as he entered. “Are you Willow Winters?”
Buffy tried not to cringe at the alias she had created twenty years ago. Instead she jumped to her feet and smiled. “That’s me.”
“Good,” he waved her to sit and took a spot across from her. “I’m Captain Christopher Pike.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” she replied.
“You seem to be quite eager to join Starfleet.”
“I am. I’ve spent my life trying to do the right thing, Starfleet seemed to be the next logical step.” She smiled easily, despite the outright lie.
“Should you be accepted, what is your field of interest?”
“Everything. I would like to be a science or tactical officer.”
Pike pulled out a PADD. “You were born January 4, 2233?”
“Yes.”
“What do you know about that day?”
“An unidentified ship was encountered by the USS Kelvin. They lost their captain to the enemy. George Kirk ordered the evacuation of the Kelvin and stayed behind in order to allow his crew to escape. He rammed the enemy ship with his own, giving his life to secure the safety of the crew.”
“You sound like you admire him.”
Buffy nodded. “Of course.” There was also the fact that she had done the same thing, given herself for the good of others.
“Welcome to Starfleet,” he offered her his hand which she shook enthusiastically.
“Thank you so much.”
“Report to Riverside, Iowa in two weeks for transport.”
“Yes, sir,” she replied.
