Sunnydale

It all began one fateful night in a town called Sunnydale.

A shadowy figure emerged to seize control of the forces of evil. Those who stood in the way were ruthlessly crushed, as Mayor Wilkins discovered to his dismay. Those who joined had to follow the rules or be destroyed, as countless vampires found out.

For the human inhabitants of Sunnydale, life appeared to be getting better. Not only had the death and disappearance rate dropped to nearly zero, but regular crime had virtually ceased as well. People who knew about the supernatural credited Buffy Summers with the first while everyone else gave the glory to the new mayor, Ian Palpatine.

But then Buffy Summers disappeared and things remained well, leading even more people to believe it was the mayor who was responsible for things improving. Soon the outside world took notice of the suddenly idyllic town and its leader. He was asked to turn around Los Angeles, which he did within five miraculous years.

That led to his becoming the Governor of California, Congressmen, Senator and finally President of the United States. When World War III commenced, he united the allied nations and became their de facto leader, which became official when they won. Their overwhelming victory insured his role as the first Emperor of Earth.

Sure there were those conspiracy theorists who believed he was evil; pointing out that there were people who went missing when he took over. Granted, they were criminals and nobody really missed them, but they still had rights!

However, most people loved their benevolent dictator. It helped that he took his time conforming the world to match what he wanted. Ironically, it was his beloved status that led the religious people to call him the anti-Christ, quoting scripture after scripture that supported their beliefs. However, they were basically ignored since he never took measures to shut them up…at least not in a way that could be traced back to him. His followers claimed that this proved he wasn’t evil. An evil dictator would stop at nothing to silence the enemy.

Unknown to all but a very limited few, Palpatine controlled it all. Early in his career in Sunnydale, he harnessed the power of the Hellmouth - which in this universe turned out to be the equivalent of the Force. As the only one capable of personally controlling the dimensional focal point, he grew stronger than he ever would have been able to in his past reality.

Not one to share power frivolously, he hand-selected humans, demons and everything else he came across during his growing reign who would serve him. Those who attempted a takeover discovered that while he gave them immense power, it was a mere fraction of the power he held. Their deaths served as a warning to the rest of his minions.

His army of force users (a Sith army) worked to control the various populations that called Earth home. When they controlled a region, they’d find more controllable minions who managed to be competent so they could start on a larger region.

Each Hellmouth that Palpatine encountered fed his power base until he was virtually unstoppable. When the last one was under his control, it was time for him to ‘die’ and for his successor to ascend. After all, it would soon be noticed that he was getting too old to be human.

So he gathered his faithful inner circle and announced his plans. Before their very eyes, Palpatine shifted from his distinguished older man persona to a blue demoness with red hair (or what looked like a demoness, since this reality didn’t have mutants).

From there, she shifted again into a 20-something blonde woman. Strangely enough, this was a form she hadn’t used often since that night in Sunnydale decades earlier when Buffy Summers managed to get costume pieces of both Mystique and Emperor Palpatine from Ethan’s Costume Shop. As Buffy’s mind assimilated the personalities and abilities of both villains, the resulting personality had a combination of all three of them.

Buffy’s morality kept the other two from going full maniacal evil, but Mystique’s ruthlessness shut Buffy up when it came to handling their enemies, and it was Palpatine’s patient, long-term planning that gelled them into a cohesive goal. They would unite the world together and colonize the universe!

But in order for that to happen, Buffy Summers would have to disappear, because Sunnydale and their plans needed Palpatine more than the Slayer and when the demands on his time interfered with Buffy’s life too much, she had to vanish.

Now it was her time to rule.

A/N: Yes, I added both Mystique and Emperor Palpatine. I wanted evil!Buffy to be the best (worst) bad guy possible. Don’t ask me why I’m in the mood to have Buffy dress as unusual choice characters from SW this month. Musie is being weird.

Oh, and I don’t own Mystique.
