Hogwarts
After hearing the chaos that Ripper sowed by giving advice to Lord Flight from Death, Ethan vowed to get in on the action. He decided to give his advice to the other side for two reasons. One, it would make the war more interesting from an outsider’s perspective, and two - and more importantly - he guessed the Death Eaters and their master would be a little annoyed by Ripper’s disappearing action. It wasn’t real fun to get cursed on sight.
So he figured out how to get to Hogwarts, and with a couple spells, got himself past the muggle-repelling charms. Then it was a simple enough task to get into the Headmaster’s office. He was thrown for a few minutes by the gargoyle guards. Not because they kept him from getting in, but because he wondered why a headmaster was basically inaccessible to the students and possibly the staff.
Despite the stranger’s entrance into his office, Dumbledore didn’t appear to the be least bit concerned. Maybe he thought the man wasn’t a threat, or maybe that Fawkes could intercept any curse thrown at him, or maybe he was on a sugar high caused by all the candy he ate and wasn’t thinking clearly at the moment.
“Can I help you?” he asked the man with his eyes at full twinkle.
Ethan’s eyebrow raised at the sight. “Does that hurt your eyesight at all?”
Dumbledore simply shook his head.
“Anyway, my friend, Ripper, gave Voldemort some advice on how to make Snape an effective spy rather than a saboteur, and that got me to thinking. Maybe I should think of something to suggest to your side of the war,” Ethan explained his offer straightforwardly. Ripper wasn’t sure which side Snape was ultimately on, but he figured that the man would at least mention his suggestion to Dumbledore and what Voldemort’s reaction to it was.
“May I ask why you are involving yourself in our struggle?” Dumbledore inquired. He was curious to the man’s motivation.
“At the moment, I don’t especially care if you blow each other to smithereens, but I assume that if that happens, it will expose magic to the world. That could have consequences that affect me, so it’s best if you keep your problems behind your secrecy shield.”
“Fair enough. What is your suggestion?”
Ethan made himself comfortable in the chair in front of the desk and started, “I understand that you abhor killing the enemy. I, myself, find the thought of death unpleasant as well. However, I also understand that you have spells that can change people’s forms into other objects?”
Dumbledore’s nod confirmed that thought, so he went on, “To keep the enemy’s comrades or leader from rescuing your enemy after a fight, why not change them into a button or pebble or something. Then instead of putting them in a prison they can be broken out of, put them in an aquarium or bucket until the war is over. If the other side doesn’t know what to change back, your prisoners will remain out of their grasp.”
“Then when the war is over, we can change them back so they can get their fair trials and maybe seek redemption,” Dumbledore added of his own accord.
Ethan shrugged; he didn’t really care about later. He just thought it would be hilarious to change people into something else. Hmm, he’d have to look into that idea for himself one day.
A/N: Holy crap, I almost forgot to write today’s ficlet!
