No house points for random "Just because" reasons? Add an element of chance to it?

(The original system was really a "Life isn't fair" kind of system. It seemed as if Dumbledore would manipulate the points to get the results he wanted. What happened during the year didn't really matter.)

From what we could see in the books, both Snape and Dumbledore made a mockery of the system - which would piss me off as either a student or another faculty member. Poor Sprout and Flitwick, giving points fairly (I assume) only to have the Headmaster pull some bullshit at the last second to steal the cup from Slytherin...which they were only in the position to win in the first place because Snape took points for idiotic reasons or because McGonagall took a skewed amount from her own house. I mean, really? 50 points each for being out after curfew? Is she trying to get 3 first years shunned by her house?
