“Where is John? I thought he was coming in with you Sherlock.” Detective Inspector Lestrade asked Sherlock as he waited for the computer to finish the search that Sherlock had specified.

Somehow Sherlock had managed to stop in the middle of Lestrade’s office so that when he spun looking for John his coat flared out and didn’t make contact with anything.

“He speaking with Xander Harris. Why is Xander here? Lestrade?” Sherlock demanded as he stepped closer to the window in Lestrades’s office as he watched John and Xander interact. This was not their first meeting, but they weren’t close and didn’t have frequent or recent communications. John was pleased to see him and Xander appeared much more at ease than when he was telling Mycroft of his difficulties.

“John knows Harris? John Watson knows the American we found at the crime scene next to the victim?” Lestrade asked. “How do you know his name?”

“Xander Harris. If he had the choice his profession would be home renovation, specifically wood working. He works with an older man named Giles whom Mycroft takes tea with. Giles threatens Xander with authority over larger and larger areas of geography if he causes trouble.” Sherlock explained, frustrated that was the extent of his knowledge of the man.

Lestrade opened the door and shouted out, “John come here and bring him too.”

John stood and looked to Harris who followed him.

“How do you know him John?” Lestrade asked pointing to Xander.

“Uh well, at some point between leaving for Afghanistan and getting shot to come back to London I was in Africa and worked with Xander.” John said, careful to give answers while keeping the details secret.

“John had tea. A cup of real good tea. Wait. You got shot John?! When did this happen? How bad were you hurt?”

Lestrade and Sherlock were both glad to see Xander’s concern for John’s health. Sherlock because it indicated someone else cared for John and wanted him healthy and Lestrade because it was an addition to his instincts that Xander was not the criminal but someone who tried to help as was his story.

“Should we expect a visit from Mycroft?” Sherlock asked confident that Mycroft had issued surveillance upon Xander due to his connection to Giles and the secretive long standing powerful institution they controlled.

“I don’t know, but I would appreciate it if you could give Giles a call and tell him I’m here.” Xander said to Sherlock as Lestrade handed a file to Sherlock.

“Mycroft let me know where you were Xander. It’s days like today that I would rather have you in charge of your workshop instead of North America. Woodcarving instead of centuries old clan disputes.” An older man said at the open door to Lestrade’s office. “I’m Rupert Giles. Xander’s employer.”

“Hi Giles. It’s not my fault.” Xander said as Giles moved to stand next to him.

“I know Xander and it is being taken care of. You have nothing to worry about.” Mycroft calmly explaiened entering a few steps behind Giles.

“I suppose I’ll get a visit from someone soon to take the case from me?” Lestrade asked not waiting for an answer he looked at Sherlock. “Your search is done.”

Moving to look at the computer screen Sherlock observed the results, “Of these three men, the robber is the one with a dented green car.”

“Great Thank you all. Leave or stay here I really don’t care at this point. I know that even a locked door wont keep out Sherlock if he wants in. Donovan!” Lestrade said as he walked out calling for Donovan so they could leave to make the arrest.
