Summary: He had been hoping she would call.
"Hello, Daniel?"
Daniel quickly wiped the sleep from his eyes and struggled to sit up. He had been hoping she would call. In fact, all of SG-1 were hoping Joyce would keep in contact with them, he just hadn't expected it to be so soon. Not even 24 hours after she had left the base. He didn't care that it was one in the morning.
"Joyce? Is everything all right?"
"Everything's fine," she replied. "I'm fine."
She didn't sound fine, not to him. "How is your daughter?"
"She's doing all right. She hasn't left my side all day, I think she thinks I'll disappear or something."
Daniel winced. He could only imagine how frightened her daughter would have been, not knowing what was happening to her mother. "I'm sorry."
There was a moment's silence before she spoke. "It's not your fault, Daniel. I..." She hesitated. "After I woke up, when I was me again, I knew you would be coming. I knew SG-1 would have to come and investigate. I knew I would be taken back to the SGC until you deemed me not to be a threat."
"Why didn't you say anything?" he asked. She had aluded to as much, but it wasn't the same as saying it out loud.
"It would have only made it worse."
He fell silent, because she was right. She still would have been a prisoner, but knowing she had gained the knowledge of a Goa'uld... he shuddered to think of what would have happened.
"It won't happen again."
Her words brought him out of his thoughts. "I'm sorry?"
"What happened to me, it won't happen again."
Daniel jumped out of the bed at her words and searched for his cell. He needed to call the SGC. "You know how it happened? How Hathor took you as a host? Why didn't you tell us?"
Joyce hesitated. "I... It doesn't matter, Daniel. All that matters is that it won't happen again."
"How can you be sure?" Daniel wanted to know.
"It wasn't Goa'uld technology."
That brought him up short. "It wasn't? Then how..."
"You wouldn't believe me," Joyce said, her voice sounded almost haunted. "I hardly believe it, but... I promise you, it won't happen again."
No, that wasn't enough. They needed more of an explanation than that. She had to... Daniel frown as the thought occurred to him. No, she didn't have to do anything. She was protected. The SGC couldn't touch her, but... "You didn't know, did you?"
Joyce didn't reply.
She didn't have to. "You didn't know how Hathor took control of you until you went home." But how, how was that possible?
"Daniel, I need you to do something for me."
"Anything," Daniel promised before he could stop himself.
"The SGC needs to investigate all the pyramids in Egypt, as much as possible," she told him. "There is more Goa'uld technology on this planet than you will ever know. More than that, I know that there was talk of some Goa'uld even hiding on Earth, some with hosts some without. I can tell you all I know, but you have to find them, kill them, banish them. I don't care, but if there are Goa'uld on Earth you have to get them away from here."
Scared. Joyce sounded scared. "Why?"
"Because the Earth, Daniel, is a lot older than you know."
