Hearing his phone ring a certain tune Eliot swiftly finished the fight. With Dawn calling he wasn’t going to waist time playing with thugs. He wasn’t sure what song it was exactly, only that Dawn had picked it out and gotten his phone to play it when she called. When anyone else called Eliot’s phone simply beeped.
“Hey.”
“Are you busy with anything?” Dawn slowly asked.
Picking through his unconscious foe’s pockets Eliot found a couple wallets as he pulled cash out to equal what he was supposed to get paid he answered, “Nah. Just finished with something. Did you get kidnapped again?”
“Hey! And no, not kidnapped but I do need your help.” Dawn said missing the fact that cell phones did not have cords she could fiddle with when she got nervous on the phone.
“What can I do for you darlin’?” Eliot asked walking away from the warehouse district in some cold city he was looking forward to leaving.
“You get things that are difficult to get to right?”
“That is my job and I’ve done pretty well at it.”
“I found something and I really need to get my hands on it.” Dawn stated, not really asking, but letting Eliot know of her reasons for calling.
“Something?”
“A book. More like person journal.”
Opening the door to an old truck Eliot asked, “What is it with you and books? When we met you had gotten kidnapped to read some old book and now you want another one?”
“I’m good with books; old and other languages also. This book may be about something I’ve studied for years. Please Eliot.” Dawn pleaded hoping he would agree.
“Don’t you work with some old research group?” Stringing her along Eliot kept her talking, Dawn was a friend. Sure the met in an unusual situation but they had become sorta-almost friends and this was the first time she had asked for something.
“Yeah. A couple of the old farts want me to translate some latin to English for them to double check and Giles just asked me to let him know of anything time sensitive. This is my project, my research, so I’m asking please Eliot. Would you get that journal for me?” Dawn asked suddenly worn out she slid down the wall in the hallway of the apartment she sometimes shared with Buffy. Pacing and fidgeting from nerves at asking Eliot for a favor, this was possibly a journal from one of the monks who researched Glory and The Key.
“I’ll get it Dawn. I’ll bring it by your apartment when I get it.” Eliot peeled out of the pot hole filled parking lot looking forward to a chance to spend time with Dawn.
