Merlin (Merlin)
Merlin looked down at the book in his lap. Just because magic had been banned in the kingdom didn't mean that it ceased to exist. That was just one reason he kept his books.
Turning another page, he thought about the information he overheard in the square the past few days. Most of the attacks, if that is what they were, happened in the outlaying lands rather than Camelot proper. That didn't make the loss of life any less important, though, no matter what the king currently believed.
Dismissing the information he skimmed, he turned another page, determined to discover what sort of creature left a body with no blood and only a bite mark on the neck. Certainly no animal he or Arthur ever hunted did such a thing. The puzzle led him to his books.
After two days of searching, however, he still had nothing. This book would be his final option. It contained myths and legends, creatures that were not, could not be real - creatures with horns that could only be killed by silver, men who changed into animals on the full moon - but he had exhausted all other options.
With a sigh, he turned the next page and began skimming. As he read the words, excitement began to build within him. The victims of this creature sounded exactly like what was killing the people. Glancing back at the top to discover the name of this creature, he froze as he read its name and origin.
“Walking Undead”, he breathed, horrified as he read of the creature. Apparently they were nothing more than an animated corpse who fed on blood.
Merlin felt ill as he continued to read of these creatures. Discovering that their victims could rise as one of them, fear begin to intrude. He knew of three such deaths and that didn't include those he had no idea about. If they failed to act quickly they might end up having to face an army of these Walking Undead. How were they supposed to beat them?
Scanning down to the bottom of the page, he read their weaknesses - wood in the heart, sunlight, decapitation. A little further down, it listed only one natural predator, “The Chosen One”.
As he blew out a breath in relief, his mind became occupied with one question that slipped from his lips, “How do I contact the Chosen One?”
