twistedshorts Ever since Buffy Summers had stepped off the Private Plane owned by the New Council hours ago she had not been able to stop thinking about the last time she had been in Washington DC. She thought about all that she had and all that she had lost. All the meetings she had attended over the new school they were opening and only half of her attention had been on the topic at hand. Buffy was just glad that she was finally done with her meetings and she could head to get something to eat before heading back to her hotel room to drown her sorrows for her fallen friend in a bottle of bourbon.
“You want to go explore the area?” Willow asked.
Willow seemed to be oblivious to the fact that Buffy had not been herself all day, but for once she was happy about it. She wasn’t ready to share what had happened all those years ago and the loss of her first best friend.
“Maybe tomorrow Willow,” Buffy replied, “I think I still have a little jetlag.”
Willow nodded understanding and after Buffy said goodbye she got in her car and started driving to the nearest Chinese restaurant. But instead she found herself pulling up in front of the house that haunted her dreams when she wasn’t dreaming of vampires and demons. Buffy stared at the house thinking back to the last time she had seen her best friend Kelly.
“Wait for me Kelly,” Buffy yelled as she chased her friend out of the house and into the back yard.
Buffy caught up to Kelly in the backyard where her friend had stopped under a tree. Kelly handed her one of the shovels that they had gotten out of her Dad’s basement and they began to dig a hole in the ground. It did not take long for them to get a big enough hole. Kelly grabbed the lunch box that Buffy had gotten her Mom to buy the week before.
“You ready?” Kelly asked.
“Yeah,” Buffy replied, “I just wanted to add one more thing.”
Buffy took a small picture out of her pocket of her and Kelly from when they had gone to the movies together last weekend. Buffy handed the pictures to Kelly.
“I figured we’d put a picture of us in there,” Buffy told her, “I know we’ll be best friends forever.”
Buffy was pulled out of her memory when she heard the click of a gun and Buffy sensed that it was being pointed at her. It was then that Buffy realized she was standing under the same tree her and Kelly had buried the lunchbox.
“Who are you?” the voice of a woman demanded from behind her.
Buffy quickly wiped the tears away before turning away to face the women. The woman who had spoken moments before had a gun pointed steadily at her. Once Buffy got over the shock of the weapon she looked at the woman. The woman had long black hair that had been pulled back into a pony tail. The woman’s dark brown, almost black eyes, did not not waiver from staring Buffy down. Buffy figured she was some kind of police officer.
“I’m sorry,” Buffy told her, “My friend used to live here when we were little.”
The woman looked at her as if she was crazy. Buffy didn’t understand the expression that crossed her face before it went blank.
“That’s impossible,” The woman stated, “The same man has lived her for years.”
“He still lives here?” Buffy asked surprised, “Mr. Gibbs still lives here?”
Just then the man of discussion exited his house. He was surprised to see them in his backyard.
“Ziva what are you doing?” Gibbs asked the woman with the gun.
“I Came to talk to you,” Ziva replied, “I found this woman in your backyard. She still has not told me who she is.”
Buffy turned her attention to Gibbs hoping he would remember who she was. She knew she had grown up a lot since she had been best friends with his daughter, but she hoped that even though he did not recognize her he would remember.
"I don’t know if you remember me,” Buffy told her, “My names Buffy Summers. I was friends with your daughter before…”
Gibbs nodded and Buffy knew he remembered. He told Ziva to lower the gun before motioning Buffy to follow him back into the house. Ziva told Gibbs she would be back later to discuss the case with him before she left. Buffy glanced back at the tree. She never thought she would see him again. The reason they had moved to California was because she was devastated when Kelly had been killed. Buffy sighed she knew it was going to be a long night.
