Faith resisted rolling her eyes. “I came all the way down here to sit in a chair?”
McKay started prattling on.
Faith’s gaze went to Radek.
“We need to figure out the power requirements,” he explained. “A second of powering it up should give us an idea of what’s needed.”
“Okay.” Faith kneeled next to the door and told Haly. “Stay here.”
Haly nodded.
Faith crossed to the chair and sat. It was a bit uncomfortable. She set her hands in the gel on both arms of the chair. She relaxed as the chair activated and leaned back. Her mind blanked and she focused on just keeping the chair engaged while McKay did his analysis.
She did not know how long she existed in this relax state.
“What are you doing?!” McKay’s bark broke through her concentration.
Her eyes shot open and she twisted to take in the room. Haly was no longer at the door. She had moved towards the center of the room. She was frozen, her foot on the bottom of the platform the chair was on.
“Rodney,” Radek said in exasperation.
“We need Faith to concentrate,” McKay argued.
“I can concentrate just fine with her,” Faith said. “It’s okay, Haly.”
Haly scrambled to the chair and sat down on Faith’s feet and leaned back against her legs.
McKay was muttering but she managed to block it out and refocus.

“Teyla’s been communicating with a Wraith ship?” Faith asked.
Carson nodded. “She wants to do it again. The connection was strong last time and I thought you would be good to have on hand.”
“Haly,” Faith said. “I have to go in to see to Teyla. Can you sit at my desk and not come in?”
Haly stared at her with light hazel eyes. She nodded a bit.
Faith waited until Haly was sitting before she followed Carson to where Teyla was hooked up. Dr. Heightmeyer was talking to her.
“Did I hear correctly?” Faith asked John softly. “We lost the Alpha site?”
“Yeah…”
They shared a look, things were really not going their way.
“Okay,” Heightmeyer said once Carson was ready. “Close your eyes and relax, and listen for the voices.”
Teyla did as instructed. She was twitchy but silent for several minutes. Then she gasped.
“Teyla?” Heightmeyer said.
She arched her back as though caught in something painful.
“Break the connection,” Elizabeth ordered.
Faith shifted position.
“It’s not working,” Carson said, trying a small electrical shock.
“No!” Teyla yelled.
Carson jumped up as Heightmeyer scuttled back.
“Teyla!” Carson reached for her.
Teyla slugged Carson as she came awake.
Faith grabbed Teyla’s shoulder. Teyla grabbed her, tumbling the two of them onto the floor. Faith twisted and came up in a crouch as Teyla ran for her again. Faith jumped at her, grabbing her around the middle and taking her to the ground. Their power struggle was difficult. Faith had always found fighting Teyla challenging, this was no different.
Then the world went black.
John and Carson rushed to where Faith and Teyla had been stunned by Bates.
“You could have warned Faith,” John told him.
“I wasn’t going to let the Wraith have a heads up,” Bates snapped.

Faith came awake with her head feeling terribly oversized. It also felt like she had a weight on her chest. She rapidly came to and tried to assess her situation.
Infirmary. She had been fighting Teyla then…nothing. She looked down and found Haly laying over her chest - explained the weight.
“You okay, lass?”
“What the hell happened?”
“Bates stunned you and Teyla.”
“Ouch.”
He grinned. “Haly latched on as soon as you were brought to a bed and hasn’t let go since.”
“Hmm. How’s Teyla?”
“Back to herself. She got some information. The Wraith don’t want to destroy Atlantis, they want to use it to get to Earth.”
“A population of six point two billion would feed them for a bit,” Faith acknowledged.
He nodded.
“And my head feels like I had a night on the town because of the stunner?”
“Seems you may be more susceptible to them.”
“Great.”
“I can give you an analgesic,” Carson offered. “IM NSAID, works quickly, possibly before your metabolism overreacts, and should lessen the pain.”
Faith nodded.
Within a minute of a shot in her arm, her head felt better. “Haly,” Faith said, shaking the girl a bit.
Haly came awake slowly. She glared at Faith before wrapping her arms around her neck.
“You okay?” John asked as he approached.
“I want to have a go at Bates,” she admitted as she sat up. “Next time just tase me, I don’t get a hangover from electricity.”
He grimaced. “We have a lot to do. You need to get up.”
“I figured.”
“Teyla was released a few hours ago. We’re headed to look at a potential Alpha site. Rodney is headed to the satellite that is along the Wraith hive ship path.”
“So I need to stop lazing about and get shit accomplished?”
“It would be helpful.”
“I live to be helpful.”

“I need your help,” Radek said.
“Unless it involves moving people from the mainland to Atlantis, I don’t really have the time,” Faith told him.
“Dr. Weir wants me to try and save as much of the Ancient database as possible.”
“So.”
“You have a better chance of getting the City to give you what we need.”
“You want me to ask it for a way to carry out its entire database?”
“Yes,” he said regretfully. “Otherwise we will have to send a virus through to ensure the Wraith cannot reconstruct it.”
“I’ll add it to my growing list, Radek.”
“I didn’t make Dr. Weir any guarantees either,” he admitted. “Do what you’re able, if you can.”
She nodded.

Grodin was gone, the satellite had only taken out one hive ship before it failed. The Wraith had destroyed the satellite and Grodin with it. But there was no time to mourn.
Halling waited for her at the base of the Stargate.
Faith pulled Haly to a stop and kneeled down to look her in the eyes. “You have to go with Halling now.”
Haly’s eyes widened and she shook her little head, making her braid whip behind her.
“I don’t have time to argue with you, Haly. You have to go…we’ll be following shortly, but they need me here.”
Haly squeezed Faith’s arm.
“You can’t stay with me. Halling will look after you and we’ll be together in a few days, okay?”
She shook her head.
Faith sighed. Between Bates being beaten, finding a Wraith in the City, losing Grodin, and evacuating, she had not slept in a day. “I’m sorry, but you don’t have a choice in this, Haly.” She picked up the girl and carried her to where Halling and Cedars were waiting. She shoved the girl into Cedars’ waiting arms and walked away.
Cedars and Halling did not pause. They turned and went straight through the Stargate.
“You okay?” Aiden asked.
“I’m primed for a fight,” she told him. She shook her shoulders out. “That’s the injured and the Athosians. We should get the next group set.”
Aiden nodded. “We have a little longer to go.”
“I don’t think so,” she said. “I feel like something is coming…”
“A big armada, that’s why we’re packing up and hightailing it out of dodge.”
Faith shook her head. “I don’t think so.”
“What?”
“Slayers sometimes sense things - the biggest are war and death. I haven’t felt like this since the days leading up to the final battle with the First.”
Aiden considered her. “Do you want to say something to Major Sheppard?”
“It’s just a feeling,” she told him. “It doesn’t give us a way to win against to two Wraith hive ships…”
He nodded. “Next group, let’s go,” he called.
Two hours later, there were only a handful of people left on Atlantis. McKay and Miller returned to Atlantis as the last group assembled.
“Welcome back, Rodney,” Elizabeth greeted him.
“Where are we?”
“Our scanners show the hive ships have started moving again, though their pace has slowed considerably.”
“Obviously you gave them something to think about,” John told him.
“If they get here in two hours or two days, it doesn’t change the fact we’re out of options,” Elizabeth said. “We can’t hope to fight them. So, unless any of you have any more ideas…”
Faith shook her head.
“Then let’s get this done.” John and Elizabeth went to the Tau’ri computer the console.
Faith moved to the dialing console. She stared at it.
“Rodney,” Elizabeth said as the self-destruct klaxon started, “dial the Alpha site.”
“No,” Faith said.
“Faith?” John said. “What is it?”
Faith pointed to seven symbols on the console.
“That’s the address for Earth,” McKay told her.
No sooner had he said it than the Stargate activated.
“We’re receiving an IDC,” he announced.
“Who is it?” John asked.
McKay looked at Faith. “Stargate Command.”
“Lower the shield,” Elizabeth ordered.
They dashed down to the Stargate as several military men entered.
“Dr. Weir,” the older military guy said.
“Yes.”
“Colonel Dillon Everett, United States Marine Corps.”
“You should kno-”
“General O’Neill sends his compliments on a job well done under extraordinary circumstances. You are relieved.”
“Sir,” John said, “we’re about to evacuate.”
“Without a fight?”
“Yes, sir.”
“On my order,” Elizabeth told him.
“That evacuation order is rescinded.”
Faith touched the crates that were being rolled in. “It worked, McKay.”
“What?” Aiden asked.
“You got our message,” McKay realized.
“We got your message,” Everett confirmed.
“It’s down to two hive ships,” Elizabeth said. “We managed to destroy one.”
“Good for you. That should make my job easier.”
“What exactly is your job, sir?” John asked.
“I should think that would be obvious to you by now, Major,” Everett said. “We are going to defend Atlantis at all costs.”
Aiden looked at Faith. “You sensed this.”
She reached into her messenger bag and pulled out a sword. “Like I said, war and death…”

“Where do you want me?” Faith asked John.
“You’re the next best pilot,” he told her. “But you’re also good in the chair.”
“She’ll remain here,” Everett’s voice snapped behind them.
Faith and John slowly turned to look at the person now in charge of Atlantis.
“I don’t believe I asked you,” Faith said flatly.
“Be that as it may, you will remain on Atlantis while my pilots and your brother set the mines.” He stared down at her. “You need to understand something, Miss Sheppard, you and your brother have no standing in my book. And as soon as this current situation is resolved, you’ll both be off Atlantis. Neither of you earned this and, no matter the strength of your genes, you have proven unequal to the task.”
Faith looked at John. “Great, at least we excel at the shared ability to piss of authority figures who don’t know the first shit about what has gone on here.”
“Faith,” John warned, “help Rodney with the chair.”
She gave him a sharp nod and swept past Everett.
“You have a problem with me,” John said, “go for it, sir. But don’t assume to know anything about her or what she has done.”
Faith stalked into the chair control room where McKay and Radek were hooking up a new generator. She sat on the edge of the chair and tried to shake off the unpleasantness having Everett on Atlantis was causing. It also didn’t help that the feeling she had felt earlier in the day had become a full screaming meanie.
It was an indeterminate amount of time before McKay told her he was ready. She laid back, activating the chair. She felt the City hum about her. Several things were thrown at her at once.
“McKay,” Faith said. “The drones…”
“I see it.”
“What?” Radek asked as McKay left.
“The drones are almost completely depleted. There are about forty left.”
