Buffy stepped out of the DNA testing facility. “Few days to kill in Middle-of-Nowhere, Idaho.”

“You chose that option because you did not want to go back to the cabin and wait out Dean.”

“You didn’t argue.”

“I know my brother,” he muttered.

“A room for the next couple of days? Or we can see about any little haunting that may be taking place around here.”

“They have a newsstand in the grocery store.”

“Demon hunting it is.”

“Well that was…”

“Anti-climatic,” Buffy suggested.

“How did you break open the crypt so easily?”

“Super-powers.”

“I don’t understand how you’re so casual about it.”

“Fifteen years to get over my hang-ups.” She shrugged. “There are worse thing to be.”

Sam nodded.

“This angel - Gabriel - that you mentioned. What happened to him?”

“He was killed when he stood up to Lucifer.”

“What would he have to do with me going to a parallel world? I mean, it just doesn’t make sense that he would have not come to find me when I landed here.”

“Angels aren’t omnipotent. God could have hidden you or another angel.”

“God…that concept is going to take a while.”

“Do you not believe in God?”

Buffy threw her gear in the backseat as she climbed in. “I don’t know. I guess it just always seemed a bit farfetched for me.”

“Apparently he went on a walk a long time ago and just never went back to Heaven. Some of the angels we’ve met speculate that they wouldn’t even recognize him if He chose not to reveal himself.”

“So, He could have hidden me from Gabriel.”

“He may also have answers about why you were sent to another world.”

“Okay, so side-quest: find God.”

“Good luck. So far he hasn’t revealed himself, though he has intervened from time to time.”

Buffy scoffed. “Like, maybe, sending a backpack with paperwork to me?”

Sam considered. “It’s possible.”

She started the car. “Great. So we just have to hope he feels a need to step in and talk to me.”

“Sorry.”

Sam stared at the test results for longer than necessary. Then he handed them to Buffy.

“Sir? Miss?” the lab attendant said. “Do you need anything else?”

“How accurate are these results?” Buffy asked.

“They are conclusive but not a hundred percent. Siblings can inherit different things from the same parents. And even full siblings can only share fifty percent of their DNA. The three samples you gave us helped to narrow down a band of inherited genes the three samples shared.” She clicked on a light board and put up the three DNA marker results. “If you look here and here and here. These are a few rare genes all three samples have in common. They aren’t likely to be found with these two markers here. Since the male DNA was from known full-siblings, we used them to compare against the female DNA.”

“And?”

“She shares markers with each male sample, things all three have in common and things they only share between one or the other. That makes it extremely likely she - you are a full-sibling to both males.”

Buffy exhaled. “Okay…thank you.” She took her copy of the results and exited the testing center.

At the car she climbed in and pulled the door shut. She set the envelope on the center console and placed her hands on the wheel.

Brothers, she thought. I have brothers…?

The passenger door opening made her jump slightly, which was a feat. Sam got in the car and tucked his copy into his laptop bag. He turned towards the backseat and pulled his duffle bag close, unzipping it just enough to release a journal.

“This was Dad’s,” he managed to tell her. “Mostly it’s about hunting and what killed Mom. But there are some thoughts, important things written in it.”

Buffy took the journal, glad her hands did not shake as much as she thought they would. She set it on her right leg and carefully popped the button that kept it closed.

On the inside cover were several envelopes tucked in the flap. Four military bars, a medal, and a pin were pinned to inside.

“This,” Sam said as he pointed at the medal. “These are from when Dad served in Vietnam.”

“You said he didn’t start this until after Mary died.”

“He didn’t. These are a few of the things that were salvaged when the house burned down. The Impala was Dad’s since 1973, he passed it on to Dean.”

“That’s why he’s so sensitive about the car.”

“As kids it took us all across the country. And she’s been with us since Dean picked me up from Stanford.” He pulled out the envelopes behind the flap out and then opened one. “Pictures.”

Buffy took them. Several were of Sam and Dean when they had been younger. Some were of them with Bobby or the Impala. She paused at one of an older man and a teenager. “Who are they?”

“That’s Dad and that’s our half-brother, Adam.”

“Half-brother?”

“Yeah. He was pre-med when he died.”

“How?”

“Ghouls. But he was brought back and used as Michael’s vessel.”

“That sucks.”

“Probably suck more if she knew that poor wittle Adam is still stuck down in the cage…” Lucifer said from the backseat.

Sam swallowed, ignoring the hallucination.

Buffy closed the journal and set it on Sam’s lap. “We need to get back before Bobby has to knock Dean out to stop him from coming after us.”

“Yeah…right.” He buckled himself in.

“Tell me about things, just try not to drop anything shocking while I’m driving.”

“Should we start with me?”
