Today's questions courtesy of theacidqueen!

1. What do you think of gory movies/video games? They are awesome! Though it depends on the gore. And I need to be in the right mood. Usually. I can't really think of any super gory video games. Unless horror games like Silent Hill count? I don't know ( Read more... )

haha yay! i would count silent hill as gory, i mean if a person doesn't like gore then they probably wouldn't like pyramid head lol. hostel was one of the STUUUPIDEST movies! it made me flinch at times, like when that one guy was drilling into that other guy's leg or when that chick lost her eye D: but uuuggghhhh i hate those stupid tourist plot lines. they're just plain stupid ( ... )

Oh, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Hostel. I love that classic cheesy type of horror films. It takes a certain humour I guess, but it definitely made me a fan of Eli Roth (Cabin Fever is another great example! Oh and Hemlock, of course, omg, Hemlock is AMAZING - and not cheesy horror ....).

With anime I usually find that dubs have terrible sound mixing/levels compared to the original soundtracks, and that's a big stopper for me (along with ... terrible voice acting). I have seen the Princess Mononoke dub and absolutely loved it, but that's a big production kind of thing with A list celebrities on the cast list, so ... it can't really be compared to a random episode of, say, Slayers ( ... )

Hostel also built itself such a reputation that it totally did not live up to, which also put me off when I saw it. Lol it actually felt kind of pompous.

Good point about live action movies; if the actors' mouths obviously don't match the words, I get a little twitchy.

I too like Icelandic. There's a lovely old feeling to it. The Icelandic Eurovision entry was sung in it this year which pleased me :D

Finnish X'D

I came here for the ghost question really... I've thought about this before, and I think it would turn me batshit insane, as it would turn everything I believe in upside down. I don't believe in ghosts, spirits, gods, magic, or anything supernatural. If I were to see an actual ghost, it would mean that anything actually is possible, even what can't be explained with science, and that is scary as HELL. Isn't it?? The reason why science is comforting is that everything can be explained - for instance, people aren't dying because of god's will, but because they have this or that virus, or cancer, what have you. But once you throw in a supernatural element, suddenly things become unsure again. Basically, seeing a legitimate ghost would change everything for me, my entire view of the world and life as well as afterlife.

I hadn't even thought of that - partly because the concept of there being ghosts is so far fetched for me that I can't possibly imagine a realistic response to such a discovery. :/

I like listening to other languages too, especially Italian and Japanese :)

Japanese is my favourite language. It's so rich and fascinating. And people use it so creatively, it blows my mind! I love it. I would have put it as my answer to this question, but I am what they call an intermediate learner, so I am supposed to actually understand it (I occasionally do) XD;

Silent hill totally counts as gory.

Hostel's gore wasn't what put me off from it, it was more the violence for no reason other than violence. It wasn't even scary, just violent.

I prefer subtitles to dubbing myself. The voices always seem to lose some of their flavour when they get redone.

Italian is fun, as it Latin. Icelandic is intriguing though I have never tried learning it.

Heh. I argue with everyone as well.

Weird, I've never categorized Silent Hill as gory before. You learn something new every day, I guess.

That was sort of the "point" of Hostel, though, wasn't it? Not that these type of films need to have a point, that's the great part about horror/splatter films :D

I too find that I find vomit and broken bones in movies or TV really disconcerting. I'm not into a ton of gore myself, but over time I've desensitized myself to it. Like you, I have my limits. Anything that's just gore for the sake of gore is...not my cup of tea at all :P

I tend to watch a lot of both dubbed and subbed anime, and I don't mind either way. If a series doesn't have a licensed dub yet, I'll gladly watch it with subtitles. Listening to other languages is really fascinating to me, especially Italian, Japanese, and French :3

I have a weird thing going with French, for some reason I just really do not like how it sounds - it is extremely off-putting to me. I have no clue why 8D Very strange.

Gore for the sake of gore can be fun, that's what the splatter genre is all about after all, haha.
