"I guess people have become too accustomed to having everything explained to them"

I liked the movie completely, moreso than I expected actually, but I was so frustrated when I walked out. I have never seen the alien movies and I was SO FREAKING CONFUSED by the opening scene, what happened at different parts, why certain things kept happening... I enjoyed the movie, don't get me wrong, but as soon as I realized I had one question I thought up two more and felt the need to turn around and watch the damn thing again, lol. Not a BAD thing, exactly, but like you said we're accustomed to having everything explained.

The Engineers aren't in the Alien films at all, so they are new to everyone. The opening sequence is just brilliant in that respect, who knows what's really going on there :D It's glorious. I have a couple of theories, but will probably never find out if I'm on the right track. That's okay, though, because I'm happy with my theories, they make sense to me, and they make the backdrop of the story more interesting to me. Does that make sense? The opening sequence wouldn't have been half as dramatic or memorable if it had all been explained later on.

It's absolutely riddled with plot holes, and picking those apart and wanting answers isn't really being lore-obsessed. I mean it's great you think it's great, but for people who found it lacking it's not because they need everything explained to them.

What plot holes?

I don't feel like writing a massive long reply about plot holes in a film I'm not keen on, to be honest, so I guess I'll just direct you to this podcast if you feel like listening to it:

Anyway the plot holes point was not entirely what I was aiming to say, I guess, so my fault for not expressing myself clearly. I mean that your "oh people who don't like it just didn't GET IT" attitude made me raise my eyebrows. I'm sure that's not entirely how you meant it, but it is how you're coming across.

No, yeah, of course people are free to like or dislike whatever they want, but immediately explaining away things they dislike as shoddy writing makes me raise eyebrows.

I've seen various lists of people's complaints on this film, and I'm just "... did you watch the film? 8D" Most of their questions, or so called plot holes, are actually answered.

Don't know what this particular podcast picks apart, though. I'm always too lazy for podcasts, but thanks for the link!

Not having seen the film, I have no horse in this race, but found Hello, Tailor's posts about the subject really entertaining and balanced.

Prometheus is a glossy sci-fi epic/blockbuster? Lol what. Is that how people see it? It comes in a newfangled package upgraded for moviegoers of the 21st century, sure, but I would never call this an epic. This is a back to basics sci-fi story filled with 80's horror film logic. Nothing more, nothing less.

Like I said in my post, is Prometheus a prequel to Alien? Sure, but if you go see it to learn more about the aliens in Alien or because you had a hard-on for Ripley, you'll be disappointed. This is a genre film, and not necessarily a film made for Alien fans.

*shrugs* again, I haven't seen the film, so....I only linked this because you seemed genuinely puzzled. My bad for misinterpeting you.

Yeah, I realise you haven't seen the film - it's really interesting to see people's take on this though. I just ... I don't even know. XD People need to watch more gritty 80's films, I guess :P
